  Sex blog couple stir controversy again

  KUALA LUMPUR — The sex blogger couple who caused a stir in October last year have sparked outrage again with a controversial Facebook posting last Thursday concerning the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

  They have been summoned to appear before the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission .

  Mr Alvin Tan Jye Yee, 25, and his girlfriend, Ms Vivian Lee, 24, put up a picture of themselves eating bak kut teh (herbal pork soup) with the words “Selamat Berbuka Puasa” — a Malay greeting for breaking fast — and the halal logo. The Islamic religion forbids the consumption of pork.

  The post attracted over 500 comments from Muslims and non-Muslims in less than 24 hours, accusing them of insensitivity. The couple then posted an amended photo, which showed the dish covered up with halal food and the greeting changed to “Ampunkanlah Kami” (Forgive us).

  After their page was taken down, they retaliated with foul language on Twitter, blaming the public, the media and Facebook staff. However, they again reversed their position yesterday, recording a short video to apologise for their “stupidest stunt”.

  The commission has called them up to give a statement today and assist in investigations.

  The Malaysian couple made headlines last year after posting sexually explicit photos of themselves online. The National University of Singapore law student was suspended for one semester and stripped of his ASEAN scholarship. THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER
