My opinion on the case was robbery gone wrong. One of the victims was home when being robbed, held hostage, asked the other victim to get his remaining valuables to bring home, which explains the abrupt visit to the safe deposit.
When both victims were at home already, probably tried to overpower the robber, but end up getting killed. The younger victim with perseverance tried to stop the robber at the gate, but got run down.
The only reason that the suspect had targetted the victim was because the victim had lodged a case with him before, and hence knew about their well to do background.
