I see now that having a strong Singapore currency is a problem to Singapore government. Singapore has no natural resources. Our natural resources is the manpower resources and Singapore imported everything in. They should have let the currency grow steadily without manipulating it to be so strong now. What is the used of having a strong currency and yet it benefited the neighbouring countries. Is a simple fact that foreign investors will naturally invest in those neighbouring countries. Most of the MNCs company will just maintain their regional headquarter here but their main business operation will be shifted to the neighbouring countries where the business operation and manpower cost is lower…right. Now we have a problem, we cannot decrease the Singapore currency value because it will only cause greater inflation because those imported goods to Singapore will be even more expensive for us to import. So we are stuck in between now…move forward and keep increasing the dollar value until…..I don’t know what will happen if one day we simply cannot increase the dollar value anymore…then it will collapse like during the time when Indonesia government devalue its currency in the 60s.
Your argument is not based on the right parameters. Companies came to Singapore because of the reliability, infrastructure, policies and stable government. If that were true, companies would not move to Shanghai which if you compare over the last 10 years has become so so expensive, it is unbelievable. The RMB has appreciated more than the SGD in the last few years.
Currency matters more to countries like China and India that have mass production and IT. Not Singapore which is more of an investment hub and regional HQ.

if you ask me, we definitely need to have foreign CEOs to help bring change and the more open culture to our working environment. I personally stopped working for companies who are locally managed becoz all they think about is squeezing you every inch for the pennies they paid you. While foreign lead companies i worked for have better compensations and progress, more open work environment, more balance... trust me, i do not need to take MC if it is just one day and i caught a regular flu or cold ...
cheers

Why manufacturing industry in Singapore is in the decline now? Now, its costly for them. Seagate, Heraeus, Evergreen etc are in Malaysia now simply for that reason…Singapore is just a small operation or their regional hq office. I think Malaysia is in the position to offer much better incentives to them.
Think about what you are saying. It is obvious manufacturing will move to lower currency countries to save costs. Look behind your brands you wear, where they are manufactured. Earlier it was India and China - now that even they have got expensive, many have moved to Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka. This is how it works.
Singapore is like NY - financial and management hub and it should remain so. At the same time, revenue is good from tourism. You explain to me what are the other growth opportunities in a small country like SG.

have you been a bosses in ALL MNCs in those japanese and westerners shoes?
Have you ever run a local company before? have you run all of them before?
then if not i think it is better to keep your opinions to yourself
Carp talk, just because your name is us, doesn't mean you have to talk out of your ass.
You are a small minded fool and if anybody should keep their opinion to the self, it is you.
Singaporean bosses, much like the employees, are process driven individuals who generally have no leadership qualities, nor are capable of thinking outside the box to ensure successful commercial superiority. There is some exeptions to this rule, but this is SGForums, so general sweeping statements that are profoundly negative to large percentages of people is allowed.
It's true laa
