do you think Singapore should have a nuclear power plant?

This is no my homework. I just suddenly thought of it while reading the news. I personally opposed to having a nuclear power plant in Singapore because I feel that it is dangerous and accidents can happen. I know that given nuclear power plants can be relatively safe and harmless, but I just don't want it here. It is like having a grenade in your flat. Sibeh scary to have it there (unless you are inside in military camp] even though it can't really hurt you, unless some terrorist go and pull the trigger. I used this analogy because our HDBs flats all so small, putting a grenade in our apartment would be a huge issue. It will be totally different when you owned mansion, you can keep it to one corner and even if it explodes, it would affect the whole mansion. Move to another side can liao lor. The moment Singapore starts building a nuclear power plant I bet everyone will start packing their bags and be ready to leave this country. What do you guys think?

Should invest in biomass energy instead. Just look at the amount of crap in sgforums. Should last us for generations.

Ok. Back to point. I seriously think we should look lnto having Nuclear Plant. We must not be left behind. In a few decades time, everyone will be towards using nuclear energy.

I would think if Singapore wanted to be self reliant on energy supply, nuclear is the way to go.
The only reason you are afraid to have a grenade in your home is because you don't know how it works, and how to use one.
Yours is the fear of not knowing and it's eventual consequence.
Running a nuclear power plant, methods are well known as with the consequences.

Sommerhill, donch worry. Singapore will not have a Nuclear Plant.
In other countries, when there is a leak, they evacuate the residents to another town. If Singapore Nuclear have leaks, evacuate to where? Malaysia? Indonesia? And come bcak in 20 years when the radiation recedes....

+1 Most relevant to singapore's circumstance. Whilst I agree with ditzy's view towards nuclear power i disagree that it is viable for us. -
No because it is dangerous. If a nuclear reaction happened, the radiation produced would kill many people.

long time ago nobody thought that waste water could be filtered and become new water, sea water could only be desalinated at cheaper costs.
For nuclear energy, it is not should, but when and how.
No need a nuclear plant catastrophe to make Singapore a ghost town. When Singaporean loses our foresight, mismanage our country, ....when foreign business quit, foreigners don't come, then Singaporean also migrate, move overseas...Singapore would be a ghost town.

Thanks but that is a small nuclear reactor... to be of sufficient size to power a % of singapore would require a bigger one.
The main problem with nuclear reactors is that they must not be near residential area therefore seriously...which part of singapore is viable?
edit: remember 6.9 million.....aim for the maximum resources singapore can hold..
