GeniusZip is freeware & it is better than Winzip. it is better because it support many different file types.
I knows very well with Gimp. It's user interface is something like photoshop. But photoshop is more user friendly, still the best that money can buy. But then, GIMP is better than using pirated software.
AVG anti-virus is free for home-use.
FileZilla is a great free FTP program I used often.
Blender3D is a great free 3d Modelling n Rendering SW that I can explore with my free time.
HydraIRC is a great free IRC program.
Skybot which is free, can block advertising cookie and more, etc.
Eclipse is a powerful but free IDE which I used for my java programming work.
MySQL is a great & free database server. Also got PostgreSQL, but it is more for Linux.

The programs themselves should knows how to manage memory. Get more ram instead. -

usually this is called memory leak...some programs or applns you running are stupid not to release your ram even after they shut down...need PRCView(freeware) to run a check, then uninstall those that are taking up nt necessary.
