lhl only compared this year election's results to the one in 1997, oh yeahhh...it's definitely a strong mandate....opps, whatever happened to 2001's? garnered only 66% against a virtually unknown team full of youngsters...

Against my neutral political stance, I question myself: Are the Elections here just a necessary 'formality' in the face of everyone and the world?
And we are, by right, a 'democratic' country.
As with any other volatile political situation in any country, I suppose Singapore is no exception to the rule. Sometimes it's all a matter of survival, rather than adhering to one's beliefs.
Knocking our heads against the wall - just hurts us, in the end.

Agree that nothing much has changed
The core leadership of PAP is still unchanged. Parliament makeup is still unchanged. After this election, they will try their darndest to pull the wool over our eyes, to convince us that they are willing to be more tolerant of dissenting views, willing to listen to the poeple more.
They also know that people will forget as time passes. Once that happens, they can do whatever they want again. Then we are back to square one.
We must not forget that they've screwed us before, and they can do it again. -

As much as have said from the Oppositions we should also give SM Goh credits for the plans he had came about regarding lift upgradings. 9-day campaigms are too short for a former presentation of the actual costs require to upgrade lifts. It may even cost less to build lifts prior to a flat's construction works completion than upgrading (integrating) lift systems within an old flat! Upgrading requires demolishing of part of an existing old block of building and many safety and resident securities aspects to look into. Testing and/ replacement of the lift (if need to) may even be required.
Singapore built their first flats without lifts stopping at every level of the flats in the old days. And it is good for us to build newer flats with lifts stopping at every level later. Say that is "good for the old and the handicapped" but i say the young and able citizens will get lazier with too much welfare and care.

or like what happened to the entire hillview area, full of chiam's followers, taking in PAP's hdb rebuild promise which failed to realise after claiming that the grounds are not suitable for rebuilding. What happened next is history...entire hillview population dispersed all over singapore...

me too .... here at CCK , even with the challenge from Steven Chia , it's also pretty quiet . My side here happens to be under HongKah GRC . I really hope some PAP grassroot leader see this and fedback to PM Lee , what we really want it's , during election , the 4 million Singaporeans , big or small , have a chance to vote .
Wipe out GRC , let's have a fair 1-on-1 , no-complaints elections .

What's really really weird about this election is that Steve Chia, the one who did the job of an MP for 10% of the pay, has been fired!
Just goes to show: In Singapore, must work Smart! Steve Chia's only problem is that he is not a PAP member!
Btw, Chua Chu Kangians, next time dunch let me hear you comprain about Bus fare increase or utilities cost increase. -
Good and eventful election i have to say .
Singaporean getting clever , what the PAP had promised , we will remember , whether or not did we vote , or walkover .
And the opposition will remember too ..... and they are going to use the PAP promises as a weapon for 2011 election .
After election , PM Lee and co , will have a harder time to " fix " the two oppositions ...... cos this time , they are not only dealing with Oppositions , they are going to deal with the " New Singaporeans " .
And i'm not too sure the newer generations did vote for PAP during this elections .
Credits to WP and SDA , if they can go on getting good calibre candidates like Sylvia Lim , PAP in deep trouble in the next elections .
Look out for Worker's Party , they are going to be the next big thing .
Trust me , this Sylvia Lim will be Hougang's next candidate if LTK retires . -

Let's hope that Singaporeans continue to send a strong signal that LKY politics of the 3rd world variety is no longer welcomed. There is a silent majority of scared idol worshippers who think that LKY is some sort of divine creature. LKY must die first, before LHL takes on that perception... but I doubt it. Those days where Singapore was mainly made up of koolies are gone forever. It's largely because the opposition candidates were too weak... Many of them can't speak coherently in English, can't express themselves properly, they do not talk about anything of substance other than mindlessly attacking the PAP on issues like Minister's wages etc.. and except for a few like Chiam See Tong, Low Thia Kiang and Sylvia Lim, they lack charisma.
