My vote doesn't count? It certainly does. Every little bit makes a difference.Originally posted by Mat Toro:Your vote don't count. Your shouting and rantings don't make you right either.
You have hit the nail on the head. He just ignores whatever he doesn't know.Originally posted by soul_rage:Hi Rockstar,
hahaha, honestly, why do we really need to bother to spoonfeed someone with the following characteristics:
1) Has no idea or knowledge of the latest news and information
2) Pretends to know even though he has (1)
3) Ignores your articles even though you found it and nicely spoonfeed him
4) Ignores any questions which he obviously has no answer to
you ai'nt realisitic bro....most ppl here compliant in SILENCE.Originally posted by Mat Toro:Of course its a landslide! Its two against one. And they took all except two seats.
Sorry buddy, most Singaporeans just don't agree with you whether you realise like it or not. you fellas can complain everyday for the next twenty years, Singaporeans will still support PAP.
1 word, "IGNORE"Originally posted by Rock^Star:You have hit the nail on the head. He just ignores whatever he doesn't know.
Wow, what a tactic indeed.
"Are you ready for a rational and civilised debate?" (as quoted from Mat Toro) And this is what he offers the netizens in here.
I can't think of a better adjective to describe this. Any suggestions?
to add on...recently with the NETS saga also, i went to the shop where i commonly get my games, the store owner also encouraging us to bring in more cash instead of "cashless payment" . Obviously this is not a very good tactics of helping the sales people for the SMEs?Originally posted by soul_rage:Recently my dad was telling me that he read a report from the Govt, that they have investigated many price hikes in Singapore, and most of them are not caused by the GST hike. They claimed that the price hikes are caused by increases in raw and intermediate materials
I think everyone should take note of this thought:
"It cannot be so coincidental that so many things have a price hike close to the date of the GST hike"
On top of that, my opinions of the GST hike are as follows:
1) The govt has no clear plan on how to use the GST to help the poor. Therefore, to me, my opinion is that the reason given for the pay hike is not convincing
2) The govt has no plans to release detailed reports to make the usage of the GST amounts collected transparent. As such, there is no visibility as to whether such a GST hike indeed is being used to help the poor.
3) Basic food prices have gone up between $0.10 to $0.50. This is going to impose greater burden on the really poor. On the contrary, the GST hike will not cause the rich any pain since its nothing compared to what they are earning.
With the above, I find it really hard to accept their reasons for the GST hike.
Actually, what is heartening is that I noted many friends from many sectors have become really upset with the PAP after the pay hike and the GST hike. In my opinion, unless they can ensure only 0.1% of the population get to vote, otherwise, they are going to suffer a hell of a backlash.
The times have changed. In the past, you can bury your secrets and unacceptable decisions. These days, we have something called the Internet, and information is now readily available to those who wish to find them.
i shall quote the same thing as soul rageOriginally posted by Mat Toro:don't worry about it buddy. The govt already foresaw what you are seeing and they will win the next election.
The implementation of increased GST is not perfect and there will be growing pains as with all necessary changes. Rest assured it will make us more competitive and stimulate the economy down the line.
Workfare more than compensates for the increase GST so the poor don't really suffer.
It just puzzles me though that those who claim they are concern for teh poor never bother to really find out what is going one.
cheers

Right, ignore but let him continue posting. Let us enjoy this spectacular fiasco and see how many more Singaporeans he can piss off.Originally posted by soul_rage:1 word, "IGNORE"
Let's just ignore his postings and don't reply. After some time, (based on research made on errant kids), once he finds no one pays attention to him, he will wither away.
Hey, RockStar, envious of you being out of town. You aren't affected by the GST hike. These days my $50 notes disappear like nobody's business![]()
That's true. It was fun making Gazelle go ga-ga and started making himself look even more stupid.Originally posted by Rock^Star:Right, ignore but let him continue posting. Let us enjoy this spectacular fiasco and see how many more Singaporeans he can piss off.
By the way, my good friend, who's a teacher, was just asking me if the govt has come up with a better workfare plan since the GST hike. Oh well, when he heard "no", he went ballistic.
This is a guy who is becoming increasingly disillusioned with the govt, despite him being a 2nd class Honours grad with a bright future ahead. No guesses for who he voted for during the elections (to safeguard his ricebowl). I don't blame him either.
66.6%? Haha anyway, I won't bet my money against it decreasing in the next elections.
The kind of support PAP has dropped considerably through the years, perhaps as a result of the older folks moving on. The younger folks are wise to know that past performance is not an indication of future performance, hence resulting in lower PAP votes cast for these younger generations. That's why you see PAP encouraging their MPs to learn hip hop, so that they can get into the good books of the younger generation, thereby getting their votes.Originally posted by Rock^Star:Right, ignore but let him continue posting. My sentiments exactly, I was in the middle of watching TV and typing this post, I didn't read your post, but what you said is how I feel too.Originally posted by soul_rage:That's true. It was fun making Gazelle go ga-ga and started making himself look even more stupid.
I have 2 friends, whom are top students in my group during our uni days, and they have a promising career in the biotech sector. (Biopolis where all the top people are). They told me their hearts died when the PAP did not heed public sentiments and went ahead with their pay hike
These 2 are going to USA and won't be coming back forever. So much for retention of talents.
I am now in a US MNC as a business consultant, and I would rather contribute my talents to foreign firms than to Singapore firms (coz they behave like the govt and treat their people like scum). The only reason why I am hesitating on leaving for good are my aged parents.
My uncle voted for PAP coz my aunt is on kidney dialysis at NKF (NKF!!!), and he is afraid they will give her problems if he don't vote for them.
There are many old people that voted for the comic leaders becoz they are afraid if they don't vote for the PAP, their kids in the public sector may be affected.
since you mention about social studies, let me ask you a simple questionOriginally posted by Mat Toro:PAP already thought about it and pre-empted that. Why do you think they made social studies compulsory for O levels to educate the next generation.
The reason why there is so much opposition among those in the 20s and 30s is because they are not schooled in how the is runned and why the govt do what they did.
In other words, the next generation will be more informed and educated on such things compared to some of you. You can expect greater support for PAP 10 years down the road.
Looks like PAP is always one step ahead of you buddy.
just ignore him lah duotigaOriginally posted by duotiga83:since you mention about social studies, let me ask you a simple questionDoes our youngsters now protray what we have learn in the social studies eduction?
I know the answer, hopefully you will know also by daily observation...
as you have said, still a kidOriginally posted by soul_rage:just ignore him lah duotiga
this is one person that behaves like the Iraqi communications minister
Remember that joker whom insisted the iraqi military forces are dealing huge losses to the US army during the Iraq war?
He was still adamant on insisting Iraq is winning, when the US forces had punched into Baghdad.
He became sort of a minor celebrity for his comic antics overnight. Maybe the kiddie here might become one as well
Another good friend of mine since army days voted for PAP because he fears backlash when he applies for HDB.Originally posted by soul_rage:That's true. It was fun making Gazelle go ga-ga and started making himself look even more stupid.

My parents are aged too, don't think they can adapt to a westernised country as they don't speak English, so I am stuck here for the time being.
Right on, the PAP has seen how important it is to win the support of the young.Originally posted by maurizio13:The kind of support PAP has dropped considerably through the years, perhaps as a result of the older folks moving on. As the older generation moves on, so will the PAP system of governance.
