How many links and sources has he posted to back up his arguments? NONE in all these pages of exchange.
Probably didn't go through proper education to comprehend that facts must be backed up.
Give him a break...every idiot has their day.
I can't even be bothered about this. Why waste 80 cents reading news that don't help in terms of good information?Originally posted by Rock^Star:Can read ST lah, like who kena raped, who kena robbed, how many traffic offences etc etc can read lah.
Politics and socio-economics? No way.
We have the highest paid govt in the world and our media never announced this. Wow. I can understand their rationale behind hiding that news.
What post?Originally posted by maurizio13:More like those who can't reply my post, ranting like a lunatic.

And he just avoids all the above you mentioned and talks nonsense. Nothing to backup his arguments at all.
Kinda pity his family for having such a stupid kid. But like you said, every idiot has his day
The director of higher education mentioned there were four thousand over foreign students enrolled in the local universities instead of the nine hundredOriginally posted by Mat Toro:many? how many? where are the stats? Do you have the stats to back up your claim? We want to see the stats.
We want you to stick by the standard you try to dictate and impose on others.
cheers
I assure they will be in other countries.Originally posted by Mat Toro:30 years is a long time buddy. Too long.
Where will you be in 30 years?
That figure include those who pay their own way in private institutions. These are the very people we profit from, you wanna restrict those too?Originally posted by will4:The director of higher education mentioned there were four thousand over foreign students enrolled in the local universities instead of the nine hundred
over foreign students mentioned in parliament.
Nobody here is talking about ipmplementing restriction for foreign students to be allowed into local universities. The trouble is the figure given in parliamentOriginally posted by Mat Toro:That figure include those who pay their own way in private institutions. Overall they still got admitted into the local universities, it is just that the figures of 900 foreign student swere given in parliament until clarificationOriginally posted by Mat Toro:yep, you gotta differentiate between the two. One must have included those are in private institutions and the other doesn't.
you seem to know everything.Originally posted by Mat Toro:The govt obviously don 't make money sponsoring overseas students.
Many are here because the university needs them to do post grad research. the problem is, there is a lack of Singaporeans wanting to pursue higher degrees. The universities are caught in a trap because w/o such research, they cannot maintain their research status.
If that is the case, MOE shoudl sponsor local students to pursue for higher study.Originally posted by Mat Toro:The govt obviously don 't make money sponsoring overseas students.

I think for the local guys, they want to start work immdiately cause of the two years in NS. I can understand some of the guys wanted to downgrade soOriginally posted by Mat Toro:they do, but locals dowan. Locals want to start work after degree and make money.
The local unis are stuck with this nonsence, but what other choice do they have.
Really? So why do you think NUS sponsor so many China and indians for post grad?Originally posted by soul_rage:this kiddo Mat is very weird
he seems to know ABSOLUTELY what is going on in universities
I can tell everyone here that there are local students pursuing higher degrees in the universities, and they are not the minority. Why should I know better? Coz I have several friends pursuing higher degrees, and on the contrary, there are many foreigners that stop at honours and go on to start work in the private sector.
So kindly pls get the facts right before going everywhere declaring to the world you know that the universe is flat or square.
It doesn't mean there are no local students doing higher degree.Originally posted by Mat Toro:Really? So why do you think NUS sponsor so many China and indians for post grad?
Which faculty these foreign student mostly in?Originally posted by soul_rage:It doesn't mean there are no local students doing higher degree.
There are local students doing research under scholarship from NUS as well.
But in the case of post grads, I support the import of foreigners because research requires minds with different perspectives, and foreigners bring a whole new perspective to the way we look at things.
In this case, whatever research results that are produced will be recorded as a work of Singapore universities, which is a good thing.
However, I question the undergrad courses, whereby there are more and more foreigners, and each faculty has a quota, which may or may not be the same each year (can be more or less).
One thing important to note is that even if there is an increase in quota, it does not equate to an equivalent increase in foreigners. In fact, the percentage of foreigners taking a place in the undergrad level has been steadily increasing in the years I was there.
I don't think you can blame the locals for being upset, since places are limited.
What do they gave $11 billion to whom? For what kind of reason?Originally posted by Mat Toro:Don't you remember we had a recession and govt gave out 11 billion at a go?
Can you guarantee there will be no more recessions?
Can you guarantee no more terrorists attacks on new york?
