Cannot dispute with you on that. What is worth noting is that they were killing each other during the war of kosovos. I hope when they migrate to a new home, they leave behind the hatred and learn to accept each other. The Hindi and Singh are supposed to be of the same origin, but during the war to protect the Golden Temple in India, there were reports that there were clashes among the Hindi in Singapore and the Singh. If either the Hindi or the Singh believes they are superior than the other and has the right to tell the other what to do, that is racism. Fortunately, this matter did not develop further, my bar yi friends leave the indian alone but very proud to wear turban, especially in front of the Indian.

Let me explain what the loaf and crumb means clearly:
Crumbs
Singapore - some employer was interested in giving me a 2 year contract but 2k per month below what I can demand in Australia. No perks - nothing. Just CPF and have to pay for my own insurance terms.
Loaf
Australia - current employer is willing to :
1. Get me on full time ongoing - means I cannot get sacked unless I make a fatal mistake . Any retrenchment means pay out of 1 month salary per 1 year of service.
2. Willing to finance further education costs if I am willing to branch out into another specialty like biostatistics which they need
3. Give me free life insurance worth 250K if I die suddenly and income protection ( guaranteed at 2k per fortnight if something happens to me and I cannot continue working)
4. Willing to let me do higher duties at higher pay. Will pay overtime if necessary and costs of getting home in the middle of the night.
5. Willing to let me have a total of 5 weeks rec leave, 4 weeks of medical/personal carer leave( usually used in parenting or looking after elderly relatives)
6. Pay for all relocation costs - they actually put me up in a hotel for 3 weeks with food paid for.
7. I can salary package to avoid high taxation rates in Australia.
Atm if I change to another employer within the same arena or even ask for a transfer out back into what they term as my home state - the terms are still the same - I don't lose out either way.
Why should I downgrade to crumbs when I can have the loaf? Stupid right? It is not the matter of your so called white supremacy but rather of practicality .
This is not a comparison of success or achievement . This is a comparison of how the country ,which you called racist, is willing to treat me compared to Singapore. If it was truly a racist country, I won't be getting the terms I am getting now.
Yah you want to use your skill and talent for Singapore- very good. What happens if your employer tells you that you are retrenched and the next job you get is as a macdonald uncle? Government tells you to accept the job and the lower wages .
You sure talk alot and you don't hear what others are actually saying . They lost jobs because they were like you once. Earn alot and thought they have a future until one day some young fella is willing to work for cheaper and free overtime. They get retrenched and get told to upskill themselves and not be so fussy. -

Well fact remains that Singapore cannot match any deal . Take for example nursing in Singapore- 6 day week - 1.5k per month now? In Australia - 5 day week plus 1 day off each month - at least 4.5 k gross net per month with shift penalties and weekend as well as public holiday penalties . Approx 3.5k per month after taxes. If Christmas season - expect 4-5k after tax . All in all I can tell you that I earnt 2 to 3 times that of Singapore's pay when I did nursing and when I did higher duties - I earnt 4 times the amount of what nursing in Singapore paid me . Let's even talk about nursing ratios. Victoria has strictly enforced a 4:1 rule on day time nursing - meaning 4 patients to one nurse as well as 8:1 rule which is for night shifts only. When one is sick , bank nurses get called in. Singapore has 12-18 patients to one nurse with an assistant nurse who can't do much except take temperature and blood pressure and clean up patient. When one nurse is sick ( and this is from my experience in Singapore) , the other nurses have to split her patients up amongst themselves. I actually had to nurse 24 patients with only 2 assistant nurses once in Singapore.
Oh ya , want to go further into Intensive care? Australian ICU 1:1 depending on acuity - 2:1 if the two patients are going into step down. Singapore ICU 2:1 to 3:1 regardless of severity .That is what my friends who worked in ICU told me . One of them is working in Australia now.
So tell me which is better? Truthfully if you dare , minus the insults.
Suddenly you don't have an issue. Well , you do not live here so you do not have a good idea of what may be the actual reason of those tensions.
Even I steer clear when an indigenous australian starts talking about the lost generation and past injustices. I just nod and listen but never add anything to it. I sympathise with them but I don't want to take any sides because I do not have a very indepth clear understanding of them vs the whites. -

I studied in aus for 2 yrs, n i would say aussies r very racist towards their aborigines. often u will see people staring n giving the fug-off look to abos. Heard from my classmates, abo dont get job(or cant get) so they feed on gov welfare(i.e the tax payers $$). aussies view them as a burden.
me, a sg chinese experienced mild racism too
i was in a casino bar, n there is this angmoh drunkard showing me his kongfu moves n trashtalking. i was like wtf? not all chinese know kongfu ok ! stupid guy must be under influence of jackie chan
in general, i would say the aussies r mildly racist

Some group of aussies walking opposite him bump against him then never say sorry.
Then at my friend's back they turned around and they said
"Yeah! Keep on walking! Fried Rice! F**kin Fried Rice"
My friend totally ignored them but it peeved the hell outta him. -

in general, i would say the aussies r mildly racist thats how they're like, just because they do or say something doesnt mean they have any hostile or malicious intent even amongst friends of different races we poke fun at racial stereotypes most of the time but that doesnt mean we hate each other -

while none of my aussie friends would disagree that there's racism in australia, those who visit s'pore often (ex-s'poreans) feel that our press over-emphasises racism and often blow things our of proportion and context.
forexample, an attck on a chinese restaurant in perth couple of yrs ago received headline news here for a couple of weeks but only a small article in the aussie press. according to my friend (who lived there for 14 years and was visiting relatives in Sg then), the last time something similar happened was 20 yrs ago, but the ST played it out to be an everyday thing. He said that most aussies condemned the perpetrators, but did not feel that it was woth that much attention that it should dominate national news for a couple of weeks. the aussie press deemed the act unworthy of attention and did not want to encourage such future acts by focusing on it. but ST pretty much sensationalise it showing pictures of the shop vandalised, interviews with pple who regretted migrating to aussie etc etc ad nauseum.
his view as an australian gave some context to the entire episode. without it, it is easy to believe that australia hates chinese and if u migrate there, u sure die lah. (if u believe ST during that episode).
personally, in all my visits there, i met some racist teens who only dare to screem vugarities from their car. 95% of the aussies i met were really polite and kind. there, u could just sit down and talk to almost anyone, from storekeepers to old people. cafe and restaurant owners (angmoh) will chat with u over coffee or dinner. people arent rushed, so u could just say a few words and usually strangers would recipocrate. pple also help u around if u seem a little lost, often coming to u instead of having to go to them.
overall, a nice place with nice pple. -

There is no one country that is not racist.
It is just whether the people openly express it or not and whether the gov openly recognise it or not. -
no government, not even that of homogenous japan and israel will openly recognise racism. maybe its just part of the typical "heartland singaporean mindset" to dismiss any comment as racist while they themselves label people of other races eg. ang moh, bangla, thambi, mat, cheena etc... but when its their turn they make a big hoohah. that day at boat quay i shouted "RUN MATE RUN!" in the croc hunta accent at this white fella who was chasing after a cab he just laughed it off and gave the thumbs up. why can't people here learn to take jokes, afterall, they make racist jokes all the time
