I am digging out old scores to settle...
remember the delay in GST increase from 4% to 5%? LHL was saying it will cost the govt x amts of money, and he doesn't understand why the people are so upset. Its just a psychological thing, 1% isn't much, blah blah.
remarks coming from the then Finance Minister, who was in charge of the economy.
Doesn't he know that its ALL psychological? Retailers psycho us to think that their products are good. We are psycho-ed to think that something is more valuable than another, when it may not be the case.
The remark he made then, showed how much he did not understand that, spending, most of the time, is about psychology. -

Our ministers' logic behind their high salary is that it is nessesary to prevent corruption.
So going by THEIR logic, students should also get higher marks during examination to prevent cheating.
What difference is there?
To give someone a high pay so that he/she will not be corrupted is like giving someone some money so that he/she will not go and steal. We all learn in school that integrity is a very fundamental value that is being expected from all of us, and as such, no reward should be expected for being honest.
If for the past 18 years, I've never expect any reward for not cheating in exams, why should these ministers (some of them more than three times my age) expect it? -
Erm.. i think it is the opposition who cant field candidates on every area in singapore that why alot of people cant vote. Of coz they will field candidates in places which they are high or more chances. Should we blame the opposition for not fielding enough candidates or they dunwan to field them in all places or pap is too strong? anyway in random places which PAP win, i think its enough to show how the people think about PAP.. example in Ang mo Kio GRC where PAP votes went down.. i still feel it is funny.Originally posted by soul_rage:well we are arguing in good spirits here, that's good

66% votes garnered in a nation where the majority of people did not get a chance to vote hardly reflects anything. But are you sure that if the rest get to vote, its not significant enough to change the vote? So far, their strategy revolves ard preventing as many people as possible from voting, so that they don't have to face the hard truth
But People feel PAP managed to get them out of a rut and economic downtown with better prospect. That why they will still vote for PAP although some of its policy remains unpopular. -

(2) PAP too strong
Its the high-handed methods (a bit despicable) that PAP uses, such as legal threats, sue, etc,that cause the opposition to be weakened. Look at some of the old opposition candidates for example. Its just one of their many strategies to ensure most voters can't get to vote:
(1) GRC tactic
(2) Lawsuits against the opposition to intimidate the opposition
(3) Change boundaries to ensure opposition can't contest in the SAME ward if that ward in previous election was nearly lost to opposition -

(1) Paying 5/6 star price for mediocre govt service, and they blame us for depending on them
(2) Double standards in the govt. MPs are part-timers, so taking care of the people is a simple job?

(4) Good performance? The world goes up, we go up. The world goes down, we go down. That's hardly good performance. A great fund manager is able to generate positive returns in a negative market. I haven't seen that for this new batch of people in the govt yet.

1) GRC is a multi racial initiative to prevent people from voting blindly against the other races if they complete in Single seats. As some people do vote only for chinese MP, It help to make it more fair. AS other races are smaller in size.
GRC consist of at least one or two other races MP. So its help to vote for them as a group to discrimate against other races. Opposition had also field alot of teams in GRC this time round so it is an non-issue. Must debunk the myth mah..

True.. why there are more MP now? Alot of pressing issues that need more manpower? Ah.. i think cause of the population increase.
2) People who voted against PAP nothing had happened.. so that is a myth too.. They can rest their worries.. Maybe high flyers also voted for opposition and they are still flying high..

what they do for the nation sometimes (if not all times) cause people to question how sincere they are in helping singaporeans. Just this week, a relative's wife gave birth. he said what the baby bonus is about is just crap as he needs to pay before the govt will give him the $$ for the baby bonus. Eg, if you deposit $500 in the account, the govt gives you $500 and if you deposit $100, the govt gives you $100. Wa, must pay before get the baby bonus. This really set people thinking how sincere they are in giving baby bonus.
