If both countries have the same environment and social values. I would still choose Australia in terms of government. I wonder how many would do so.Originally posted by Gazelle:Everybody is born different and everybody has different priorities in life. Some people might find the Australia weather is good and society is liberal, while some prefer Singapore because it is safe, clean and vibrant.
Hence to call those who prefer to lead a simple life in Singapore as sillyporean is really very unfair. Futhermore, I am sure there are also many dumb, racist white Australia living in downunder isnÂ’t it? Hence it only goes to show that there are all sort of people living in this world and you have no right to judge them as sillyporeans or whatever unless they are committing a crime.
why don't you cut the crap and answer your ridiculous statement that PAP = govt?Originally posted by Gazelle:Yes go on and tell us that PAP is not using government's fund and that protestionism is good for our country and open economy is bad.
Is that what a so called Singapore top earners is capable of? damn.. if this is true singapore is in real deep trouble.
or cowards whom hide behind a nickname on sgforums and whine that all of us are whiners.Originally posted by maurizio13:If both countries have the same environment and social values. I would still choose Australia in terms of government. I wonder how many would do so.
There are those who want to leave Singapore, but are not able to do so because they are not able to get PR or citizenship in another country.

Now let's refocus on what you seem to be avoiding the issue that it is immoral for a government , in fact any government , to deprive their tax paying citizens the right to access essential facilities. I never knew [b] until today from you that the carrot actually includes essential facilities

He basically stabbed himself in the foot and probably committed himself to defamation of PAP in regards to what he had said .Originally posted by soul_rage:I highlighted this to him previously already.
HDB upgrade is taxpayers' money, and cannot be used rightfully as a carrot since it implies that Hougang and Potong Pasir residents should pay less tax.
But he cannot understand (or refuse to understand).

Taxpayer's monies are not to be used for dangling essential items and should never be used that way.
Upgrade carrot which I always thought [b] was more of an aethestic thing like repainting and extra rooms NOT essential items such as lifts but Gazelle seems keen to include lifts for the old and disabled into the carrot and it voids his whole statement about a good government.

Gazelle is more a LIABILITY than an asset, becoz he causes more damage to the PAP in his attempts to defend them.
"There is no difference between a stupid person and a devious person, the only difference is that the stupid person causes damage unknowingly, while the devious person causes damage knowingly."

What u mean different?Originally posted by Gazelle:There is no need to get personal here. just because you choose a life in certain way that doesnt mean that is the coolest way to live life and all Singaporeans must agree to that or else they will be labelled as sillyporean.
And please dont start comparing singapore to australia because we are different and we prefer to remain different.
And please stop using the word sillyporean, that wont make you look very smart
No, 5day week.Originally posted by fymk:Actually I thought 5.5 week still? or maybe that is reserved for my relative who seems to be handling more and more work ...
Gazelle does not work for the government . Trust me - his type of style will get him sacked within a week.
I wonder if he lives in Hougang or Potong Pasir to say such big things, because I live in Hougang and experience first hand the effects of all this carrot play funded by our own taxes, no less.Originally posted by soul_rage:I highlighted this to him previously already.

For a person (Gazelle) who can blatantly tell you:Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:With that kind of attitude, it is no surprise that Hougang and Potong Pasir remain in opposition hands and even had their margins increased in the last elections. Basically this whole stick and carrot thing is a slap in the face for the taxpayer, and this strategy is already wearing thin on the credibility of its users.
I am surprised that Gazelle has chosen to defend it, for frankly of all the political moves the ruling party has made, the stick and carrot method of dealing with opposition wards has been one of their less sound ones, as proven by it's repeated failure to yield results, not to mention is is morally questionable to begin with in the first place.
Indeed, all you need to do is to go to Hougang and look at the difference between the ward boundaries to understand the true effect it is having on the people in here. And these people are not being deprived because of the opposition's incompetence.
sure, mean time keep up the good workOriginally posted by Rock^Star:Thanks.
However, let's forget it and just move on. Otherwise, we might run the risk of making this discussion stale.
We shall engage the "quadruplets" again on another day, another issue.

Hi,
Alot of forumers are posting subject that insulted our current governement, i not sure what is their motives and what message are they bringing to the others forumers tat reads their posts.
there are many things to be unhappy with: boastfulness, self interest before people, unfairness, monopoly, harming citizens
I feel over the past 40 odd years, the government has been doing alot for the citizen in Singapore,
in the context of oriental non-communist societies, what the govt did for the past 40 odd years isn't anything extraordinary. the results of this country also comes from the hardwork of the people so you can say that citizens have done a lot for the govt.
Should we just moved backward to the troublesome period in 1950s,
think about it, the 1950s is when the second world war just ended so it is a transition stage while homes were being rebuilt and economy restarted. life under the british prior to the second world war wasn't chaotic either.
think how the government help the us during the economy crisis, how the ministers assist the Sars period.
we were actually asked to take CPF cuts and salary freezes. now that times are better, those cuts are not fully restored while we are being taxed even more. no sense of appreciation for the sacrifices we made. when the going gets better, they are the first to take care of themselves ...
They done enough to earn our respect and not insults and complains from us why they need to earn so much money.
so where is the respect from such a self serving govt?
I do agree the society need to be more democratic and free voicing of the people.
that has been said once too often but is merely empty talk for all our voices come to nought.
But how much trust are we prepare to give to the new opposition parties.
if i read you correct, absolutely none. and i'm sure 66% of the population here thinks so too.

The only reason why they are puzzled, is that all the ministers etc. do not understand that money isn't everything. No one really gives a frak about upgrading if it is going to hurt their wallet. It seems that they still haven't gotten this point yet especially after the rejection of a few upgrading projects.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:I wonder if he lives in Hougang or Potong Pasir to say such big things, because I live in Hougang and experience first hand the effects of all this carrot play funded by our own taxes, no less.
Right across the road from my house is the area boundary, and one can see the tons of shelters and other upgrading projects they have put up while the chaps in our area (just across the road) cannot even walk to the nearest bus stop during the rain without shelter.
And of course we are told that this was because we didn't vote for them... okay, a very "endearing" reason. And I wonder why they are puzzled that they can't seem to win Hougang or Potong Pasir over every elections. Asking people to pay for their own carrots is basically a slap in the face, both to those in those areas and those outside of it.
At the end of the day, all Singaporeans are actually chipping in to pay for these "carrots". We have no choice about it and what they are saying to us is that if we don't bite, then well, too bad then.
We are duty bound by law to be taxed for your own carrot? Is there not something seriously wrong about that?
If you will rceall that LKY remarked: ".. feed them so well, they won't leave..." or something to that effect.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:With that kind of attitude, it is no surprise that Hougang and Potong Pasir remain in opposition hands and even had their margins increased in the last elections. With the existence of the ''Holy Trinity" - ''the Father, the Son and the Holy Goh'' - is there a 4th seat ?
The Pro-Govt guys are welcome to win the argument, as they can have the only place left which they truly deserve - [b]on the carpet; serving at the feet of the Holy Trinity.
That is the only place for ''carpet beggars''....
