singapore is not a rich country, does not have natural resources.
we have some advantages that is related to our small size like low corruption, low crime, and we have to invest in areas like finance and others.
in the end, we are not a rich country. therefore, we have to understand our situation. i believe that if you have the opportunity to migrate to other countries that are richer and provide better things to citizens and yet still beats singapore in other aspects like low natural disaster, low crime rate
than you should migrate because you can have a better life.
if you do not have the chance to migrate, you should also be careful not to keep feeling angry that you do not have large pension of retiring and have to work till old age. -

I wonder if he lives in Hougang or Potong Pasir to say such big things, because I live in Hougang and experience first hand the effects of all this carrot play funded by our own taxes, no less.
Right across the road from my house is the area boundary, and one can see the tons of shelters and other upgrading projects they have put up while the chaps in our area (just across the road) cannot even walk to the nearest bus stop during the rain without shelter.
And of course we are told that this was because we didn't vote for them... okay, a very "endearing" reason. And I wonder why they are puzzled that they can't seem to win Hougang or Potong Pasir over every elections. Asking people to pay for their own carrots is basically a slap in the face, both to those in those areas and those outside of it.
At the end of the day, all Singaporeans are actually chipping in to pay for these "carrots". We have no choice about it and what they are saying to us is that if we don't bite, then well, too bad then.
We are duty bound by law to be taxed for your own carrot? Is there not something seriously wrong about that?
I have upmost respect for the ppl of potong pasir and hougang.
these ppl has the guts to not just to voice displeasure over the ruling party policy but to put voice into actions.

As many have pointed out, this may not be the case at all.
To use an example, out of every dollar raised from the people’s money the NKF only 10 cents went to the patients while the rest went to who-know-where. And of course how many times have you heard the excuse come up from the ex-NKF board members that they had “helped” people with whatever they did?
If I set up a big, glitzy organization but pay you only crumbs and tell you that you better be content because this is the best we can give youÂ… you can tell something is up.
January on the other hand, seems to think that all this is “natural” and “just” and simply a fact of “big picture thinking”.

Singapore is ranked 12th in the World in terms of percentage of incarcerations to population. Switzerland is ranked 110th, New Zealand is ranked 55th and Australia is ranked 74th.

1. People who are resigned to receiving only crumbs from the govt, and say there is nothing much else they can do (The self-admitted loser)
2. People with elitist attitude that insists the govt is doing very well, and that the rest of the population should shut up and resign themselves to fate (selfish elites)
3. People who whine a lot but yet don't dare to do anything when the time comes (ie elections)
4. People who protest and think of ways to get themselves out of the mess.
From what I can see in this forum, most of the voices of protest are people whom geuninely know what they are talking about, and thus should belong to type 4.
I know I belong to Type 4. Coz I broke out of the silly policy of low pay, 'high bonuses' as dictated by the govt, to reach the high pay that I deserve.
But you know what's real agonising for me? Its to see so many Singaporeans being capable, and yet not able to see that they are worth much more than what this govt claims they are worth.
Make no mistake. Singaporeans' being generally lowly paid bodes WELL for the elitist govt, becoz being a developed economy, and with our govt pressing our pay abnormally lower than many of the other developed economies, it makes Singapore an attractive destination of investment for many many companies.
Unfortunately, these investments don't flow down to the people, but instead goes direct into their own pockets. (unless you take their miserable hundreds that they give you for the GST as part of the flow)
I find it really hypocritical that the Govt pays themselves so well, and then the people are paid so much lower than they deserve.
Our country is HEAPLOADS RICH, with billions and billions of reserves (Such that the Shin Corp fiasco is small change), but yet, the people are finding it tougher and tougher to make ends meet.
To the elitist here in this forum, pls don't pretend you know the plight of the general population, when your wife is driving an Audi, and you pretend you know everything we discuss about here (including your stupid insistence that Govt = PAP) -

Our govt is world famous for their poor investments abroad. They are overconfident, and soft from their comfortable monopoly of funds & resources in Singapore. They do not learn from their mistakes, and squander funds faster than they can collect them from the citizens. I think they have created enough evidence to condemn themselves, and anyone who wants to be enlightened need not look very far - they just have to keep a clear open mind.

The govt is the representative of Singapore. Thus, any hiccups in international relations ultimately hit us, the ordinary Singaporean
And to tell you even more blunt truths, when other countries' people are angry with our govt, the only people they can vent their frustrations to, is us. Becoz they cannot touch the untouchable (our ministers), so ultimately, we receive the thrashing.
Also, now that the entire world knows that our bunch of ministers earn a ridiculous pay, what does that create an impression on the ordinary Singaporean?
We are all rich scumbags, and should be fleeced as much as possible, if they know this tourist is from Singapore.

By rewarding themselves with obscene wealth that are derived from the hard earned monies of a disadvantaged population, does it need any effort from Singaporeans to defame the Government ?
The government is doing a good job at shooting their own reputation.
It is already an acknowledged fact - from social and economic researchers - that too much Private Monies have been taken out of circulation in the Singapore Economy, and all are being hoarded by the Government; and leaving Singaporeans to struggle with Life in general.
If Singaporeans are comfortable with their general economic, social, political and cultural well being - one will see a natural increase in the birthrates, and there will not be any need for government concern nor any social engineering efforts at new migrants to maintain the ethnic balance.
A declining population itself is already an indication that things are not going well for Singapore - and serves as a clear ''Performance Indicator" of the government.
Performance of the Government is not only judged by numbers, and by the superficial image of progress. The psychological measure of quality of the governed serves as a more accurate indicator of the Singapore progress.
A nation in distress clearly affects performance in all aspects of human endeavour.
Is it not the fault of the government, when those young Citizens who will not marry at the usual age of 28years but will marry later; and for those married will not have a family size similar to those found in the 1940s and 1980s ?
The ''widening gap'' between the Rich and the Poor is no longer a mere ''gap'', it has become a ''chasm'' - especially with the Cabinet Ministers and the Civil Service leading the way to carve a niche for themselves.
The Citizens' ''iron rice bowls'' have been taken away by the Government with the help of the Government controlled National Trade Union Congress, and with the Citizens' iron rice bowl melted at the National Iron and Steel Mill to make new and bigger bowls for the Government.
The Citizens are expected to eat from banana leaves, while the Government eat from polished and jaded iron rice bowls.
Does anyone need to go ''all out to defame the government'' ?
