Communism or democracy or despotism or maoism, it is up to whoever defines it and also in what context. There is much of local culture associated with it. For example, China had Deng Xiao Ping as Paramount Leader. Singapore has Lee Kwan Yew as Minister Mentor/Senior Mentor or whatever he is called. In Thailand, we have General Prem Tinnasulanondha. He is no longer a prime minister but everybody knows that he has the power.
In Thailand, the west loves to call us a democracy just because on the surface we have elected leaders, constitutions, elected members of parliament, etc. In essence, Thailand is still in its traditional system of power hierarchy.
Western style democracy sounds good and everybody loves it. However, to implement it successfully is another story. Sometimes it leads to disasters as in the case of Thailand. Come to Thailand and see.

I think the problem of the recent spate of events is because of seperatists and human rights, not because of watever political system one is experiencing. Is democracy the mircale pill tat can solve all society problems ? This is very debatable. Should china become democractic suddenly ? I think tis is a recipe for doom since there r parts of china tat is not educated and developed long enough. If his political system is wrong, then china wouldn't even become powerful, or bringing the most people from poverty within a short time, or developing or even beating other countries in hosting the olympics.

mao is one of the most over-glorified leaders, ever.
the caustic pain and suffering he caused the simpleman and women in china is telling throughout his reign. as he danced and fondled willing women in his private room in the PLA dance hall days @ beijing twice a week during his manhood peak, people are eating sand to survive.

But he unified China and laid the groundwork to transform China to a strong power and lifted the morale of the chinese people.
There are still some followers of Mao's political thought, so called maoists.
Chiang Kai-shek would had been a stooge of the USA.
Who would want to follow him with pride?

Mao was actually very effective in causing widespread starvation when he forced China's farmers off of traditional farms and onto experimental collective farms. And there's always the glorious Cultural Revolution

No one here is defending the CCP lah. All we are saying is that Western governments and media aren't wholly altruistic in their motives...
Btw, the massive demonstrations in Chinese cities have show that IT IS THE WILL OF THE CHINESE PEOPLE THAT TIBET REMAINS A PROVINCE OF CHINA.
End of story.
If this whole thing was a CIA conspiracy to split or destabilize China, I would say that it has backfired very badly. The Chinese people are even more staunchly supportive of the CCP now.

As long as USA doesn't give up their ambitions for global hegemony, I will oppose their foreign policy.
But if they change to aggressive and destructive policy to peaceful and productive policy, I will withdraw my opposition to USA.

chiang and mao are not much different. both are forceful, only chiang is more clueless.
