Besides economic factors, I think discovery of Asian food probably drove the change - one can only have so much Sunday roast.
As for the inferiority issue, maybe I'm just lucky, but after 16 years I've yet to experience a single incident.

i havent heard anything from past army thats tougher than yer time .
1)the training where everyone became skinny n mothers cried is same as my time.....
2)the mortar carrying was a we effort so its not counted.....unless u are dumb enugh to carry a mortar by yerself to top of hill...in which case u need to see a head doctor
3)israelis training???never really though much of it
