  you have a poly dip, you are definately not going to be a waiter all your life unless you make it your choice
  
  if you want more money , other then working maybe you can try to figure out how to take care of your finances at the same time, like at least making sure you know where you spend your money and how much , and where your money's coming from. at the very least once you have an idea of where you stand you'll know how much futher you have to go.
  this would also serve to remind you whenever you spend needlessly so you can stop yourself. and if you managed to save a tidy sum of money while working , you can either start a sideline or you can invest your money.
  
  if you're like me , knowing nothing about investments , you can try getting those saving insurance policies, they can't make you rich, but at least you'll be saving money , probably at a rate higher than what the bank's giving

  so many jobs available, in the papers, on job ad sites whatever, its either you're very picky or you hold a diploma from a course that not many companies could utilise.

  the most important thing is to start planning your own further study route , be it part-time or full-time local or oversea

  just face it, if u r intending to go into IT, a degree is a MUST.
  
  fyi, 2 yrs ago, when i 1st started working, my pay difference with a degree grad is >700 dollars/mth.

  money is often considered to be the most impt criteria when deciding what jobs or careers to take on. I am not saying that $$ is not important, but people shud try to look at the big picture..Whats the point of $4k a mth when u have to work shift and be exposed to dangerous equipment etc..Interest shud be the main motivation, cus only by being interested in the job and what u r doing will get u far in ur occupation in the long run..
  
  anyway, dun be tempted into signing on (armed forces, police, etc) due to the high starting pay..i personally feel the private sector is able to offer u perks, freedom that the civil service can't, unless u r some scholar or something. Promotion in the private sector is mainly based on individual performance, in the civil service, no matter how gd u r in ur job, if u dun have proper qualifications to back u up, there will always be a 'ceiling' with regards to how high u can climb.I like to be recognised for my abilities and effort, the civil service juz aint right for me~

  You were born in Singapore, just accept your fate and live day by day and hope that you do not suffer a chronic illness. Oh and do not succumb to temptations to make ir big or make it rich throught gambling activities or you will simply end up worse. Gambling like Stock markets; property speculation; futures trading; casino....

  I wonder why S'porean always determine a person future base on qualification? Is it that important? We have emphasize too much on education. Is not true that poly student can't earn much and is not necessary to earn lots of money then one can be happy. My advise is spend within your mean. I have a friend who is only poly graduate, working as a broker now. In two years time. his salary increased to about $10k per month, but these are hard earn money. No sweat, no gain. It does'nt mean with good qualification, one will earn more without hardship.

  i intend to enrol for uni next yr, and meanwhile taking this time to build my portfolio.
  i am holding a contract term job now which pays me 1.5k a month.
  i have an investment policy running.
  
  its you want to do it or not only. so c'mon get working instead of complaining.

  some few points i need to voice out (my 2 cent worth)
  
  1) If you are asking whether education is important.. YES, it is very important that a person have the qualification. You may argue with (one of, or a few) ur frd' current career that he/she is earning 10k/mth, but i CAN argue u with lots and lots of example of my frds who are only holding diploma(but very well-performed) still are crawling slowly. They are very good, in fact, some of them are better than degree, but sad to say, they think that paper qualification are not important, which makes the company think likewise: they are not important to the company as well. (though they perform well)
  
  2) i feel they are a few types of people who feel paper qualification are not important..
  1- people who are rich, and he/she don't bother to care abt money, cuz they are born with lots of it, they just need to reach out their hands to ask for money to set up business.. fail? nvm, ask for more money to fail again.. (failure is the mother of success, i think that's wad they believe)
  2- people who are easily satisfied, don't mind crawling in their career and self-sufficient
  3- people who are really very good, but if you are very good, i guess it wont hurts to get a degree? at least as a "show-off" also better than nothing..
  4- people who think they are very good/smart/clever, BUT have not expose himself/herself to the reality, meaning, you might not even have entered the workforce yet..
  5- people who work on sales, marketing (MLM, Insurance, broker?..etc) you need to talk well for that can liao..
  
  there may be more types, but i feel these 5 types fits most of the people who feel paper are not important..
  
  as for people who can succeed without a proper paper(and with no backing, not white horse), i salute them, either they are very fantastic or either they are very heng.
  if you think you falls in the above range, i salute you too..
  go without a paper then

  Can anyone tell me why tht "fling" guy is so happy and proud of his $5k per month job? He took 10 years to reach tht meagre sum... And tht's about the best a poly graduate can do... Go ask the successful uni grads how much they earn in 10 years time...

  Really depended what you working as and who you are and who know you.
  
  How to answer you this question..cause I may be shamed too. Degree holder can be 20K a month or 5K a month after 10 years continuous working.
  
  Of course if you compared to degree taxi driver..then the most is about 2.5K and half his life.
  
  Should be proud because he is above average singaporean which mean he have to look at money more closer and no life.

  upgrade urself? go get a degree from a private uni.
  if u need the money to study, u can find a decent job to work first. dun be choosy when choosing a job.
  
  if u r single, that's great because u wun be so tied down with the stress of settling down with ur gf.
  
  take this time while u're single to go look for things to do to enrich urself. take up small courses to learn smth new. in this way, u'll find more interests along the way and will understand urself better.
  
  money is important. yes. but then u must know what u must do to get to a place where money is flowing well for u. do ur research.
  
  the tips is: if u keep focusing ur mind in making more money, u'll not make money. u'll lose them slowly.
  
  u have to find ur potential, firstly, by enriching urself with courses and thru those enrichments u'll discover ur strengths and weaknesses.

  Somehow, I tended to agree with you on the point..like the Taiwan Ah Seng Mum say to Ah Seng

  I interpret it as we are too concentrated to earn as much as possible as an individual self till we had forgotten everything around us. Hence, when we are looking money closely..other important things in life were forgotten.
