I'm 16, retained student, cannot study type, super super problematic, a few police cases still pending and have no hopes and no plans for my future.
Today, while talking to my aunt.. she talk about, what do i want to be in the future, i told her the fact that i cannot study and do not wish to continue my studies, i know even if i do continue, i would just fail badly.
Their question to me, without 'o' levels, i cannot even work as a taxi driver or a bus driver... and am i going to work odd job for the rest of my life...
I thought so too, what am i going to do, without a degree or a cert, what can i do, i cannot be cao ah beng and eat off my parents for the rest of my life.
I need to achieve something.
I feel useless suddenly...
But i do not want to study too,
I really don't know what to do...
I do not have any "yi zi zhi chang"
or what others called your good points.
I am interested in playing with bikes and driving but that one cannot feed me...
I don't know where to go if i am to leave secondary school now...
My few relatives actually suggest that i go and learn to be barber... but i also not that determined, maybe i cannot think for myself yet la.
Then also, my mother is fully dissapointed in me already, what i do nowadays she also don't care, makes me very sad also...
Am i a failure ?
What should i do...?
What CAN i do ?
Maybe suggest what i should do for now until NS and maybe show me something that could improve my future.

Hmm... reminds me of the old me too.... i only realised what i wanted when i was 24..... =) so don worry kid, slowly expose to the society liao, then see what u want in future. Maybe during NS then u will think ba. Talk to many people. Then grow from there...

It's just whether you want to study anot, I know someone (like me) always say "Lame" when people tell me "Just tell yourself you can do it and you can" kind of crap
I don't buy that shit, But the hard part is opening the book and remembering what you studied
If you study and can't remember, Just keep repeating it and if its very difficult eg. maths quad formula, write down somewhere and keep repeating it for the whole day
It'll come back to you once its needed
If you just say Aiya I cannot la, You tried everything like ang kong blah blah all those trash
Why can't just open your book and read? If really cannot then no choice, commit a grave offence or you will be a burden to your family

Hey, just giving my views.
If you're 16 and retained does that mean you're taking your 'O' Levels this year or next? If its this year, it's time to start chionging. if its next year, there's still time for improvement but you definately need to start now. EVERYONE hates studying - we all feel sleepy when we mug. But that's no excuse for not trying. If you lack the discipline and determination now, you will lack it no matter what you do in the future. It's best you face up to that fact now and stop giving yourself excuses.
Even if you do poorly for the 'O's, you could go to ITE and that is certainly not a dead end. Skilled workers are always needed and you can weigh your options from there. Pooling funds and starting your own business (in bikes since that's where your interests lie) is not a bad idea. You can learn the trade and save up while working for someone else first.
Joining the army will seem like a enticing option but i urge you to think twice about it. The first 2 contract renewals for NCOs are very difficult (not talking about commissioned officers here) even though the money is relatively good. If you fail to renew your contract, you will be cast out of the army with NO marketable skills. Its far worse than losing your job outside if you ask me.
Someone said you could be a hawker. Why not? It's respectable, good work and it certainly can give a damn good living.
The service industry needs fewer qualifications than most places and certainly interacting with people is much better than the monotony of other types of work.
Point is, it's not the end of the road. Everyone can give advice but it's up to you to try. (You spend a hell lot of time on this forum. Perhaps its time to cut down till you get your studies sorted out). -

Why don't you just complete your O levels first and think about other stuff later on. You need at least O lvl cert to get you to anywhere. W/o O lvl cert, there are very few avenues left.

if your interest lies in mechanics, try to at least get some decent grades for your maths, physics for these foundation skills will come in useful if you are ever in that trade and learning more specialized stuff in future

if u really duwan to study, dun study now. waste money. come out work, take a job that u like and can advance in. or work, save the money, then start ur own business. dun smoke dun ang kong dun geylang. oni for eat and drink and transport.
