Anyway, when i'm really frustrated (by pple's abusive psychological remarks), i've learnt to completely shut out and forget unhappy thoughts by focusing and keeping myself active (and cool) with recreational and leisure outward bound activities like a nature/coastal beach walk, jog at Macritchie, East Coast, Changi and Botanics. The experience is fantastic especially when standing in a cave under a waterfall. Nature and its creatures have a wonderful way of calming the mind, soul and spirit. If you guys and gals are interested, can organise a mini getaway. I usually go out early in the morning in the weekend to catch the sunrise. It's beautiful. -

I am working overseas after working in Singapore. Basically different culture here , you can tell your boss he is wrong if you are 100% sure and they will listen. In Singapore, they want you to shut up and listen. Over here , you have to talk your way through or else you just won't get noticed. I noticed some new singaporeans I know, seem to think just because they were told they are wrong straight in the face by their white colleagues - that their colleagues must be racist or something and it makes matters worse.Originally posted by Bontakun:I think we are too used to the Singaporeean lifestyle. Not all of us who are not too fond of the current Singapore "system" can take the alternate "system" of other countries.
However we also got smiling assassins everywhere - the ones who smile sweetly at you pretending that you are their friend and will unexpectedly silent character assassination behind your back. You also have the credit snatchers here who take credit for your ideas and you must know how to deal with them as well . You also have arrogant colleagues who have 50 crowbars stuck up their arse. Politics in work is everywhere regardless of whether you work in Singapore or overseas .
I actually deal well with those who are quite open about not liking me because I know they are the most honest person when you ask them if you need improvement - they just hammer out everything you need to know .....or if you need to see if your paper is publishable - they make the best critics. -
It is best for you to matriculate into university first instead of spending too long a time doing miscellaneous work. In the local uni, you can easily obtain loan for both your tuition fees and living allowances (up to $10k a year). With a degree in hand, there will be more opportunities and the starting pay will be much higher than you spending your time doing misc work (which will never be finished) over a fixed period of time.
Then again, this experience you have gotten from work is priceless. It will make u even more value the time u have now, esp next time when you go into uni.
Since grad last year; thankfully i have not seen much office politics in my workplace. Maybe becos it is a mostly-guys + jap + engineering environment. Everyone just work together.
During my 8-mth long internship with a respectable US MNC, where 80% of the staff r all females, I was quite put off by the gossip and politics that is going on in office daily. It can really be quite tiring if we were to spend 50% of the time a day handling all these 'politics'. The only day that every office worker will look forward to is friday (which is today!)
So the company work environment is equally important. It will either makes life enjoyable or hellish. -

Somtime if we got promotion, it may aslo a bad thing, will kanna assassiate anytime of the month. I think we should an annual altitute review for every worker. There are 101 ways to do things to avoid character assassination. You have to prove yourself to your supervisor and your other colleagues as reliable, hardworking and honest . You also have to get your degree or else you are going to be picked by everyone who has one in your company. An A level cert without connections, without cash, just designates you to bottom of the heap in a company . Another thing , don't talk too much to your colleagues about personal things - never have a colleague as a personal friend as well. You can be friendly to them but just don't treat them as a friend to tell your secrets to. Not every company is like that - dead serious all the time. Environment differs from company to company too. When u r at work, just work and switch your mind off about everything else lor. After work, you can get back your normal life and switch off your mind about work.
Are you working as a professional? Becoz I have and a professional's life is very tough - high expectations, long hours, voluminous work........
After slogging more than half a dozen years as a professional, I've decided to move on to an in-house position and bingo! Life is so much more straightforward and relaxed........
But it seems that you are a fresh grad..... It'll be good to tough out life as a professional for a while before moving on so as to earn a bit of credibility.....
this is important as it adds to your "substance".
Anyway, learn to adjust lor.......... Welcome to the adult world and corporate toil....... -

I working as a small position as a clerk, the workload is not easy. Imagine climbing up the corporate stairs, we face more workload and no OT pay. The boss will say it is your job to finish it. Lan lan to stay up it and finished it. That's why most of my supervisor stay up late to work. You can see from the skyscaper in Raffles Place. Still Light ON! Bright! Bright! One! -
No matter where you work in Singapore, it's all the same... i hope our dearest men in white will really sit up and listen... something is freaking wrong with the loical work culture / environment....
You want this and that... want us to work 14 hours everyday... churn out work like magic (in perfect precision some more)... how they expect us to find time to even relax (not to mention get married and have kids - hah! that'd be a miracle)...
Yes, it's probably attributed to our own expectations... the more you expect, the harder you need to slog... Then again... I've been in the rat race for years... at the end of the day, I felt really stupid... cos i missed out on so many family gathers, important celebrations, my nieces' birthdays etc...
It's important to make a living... but I think it's even more important to live a life...
