The ideal of ask students to wear uniform is to unify all students. To show equally among students and to show outsiders that the students are disciplined.
Like babylynn said, no matter how cold Singapore is it will not drop below 20 degree. If everyone is going to wear jacket, what is the use of wearing school uniform.
Besides, even if you say the school can just pick a colour and allow the students to wear jackets, do you think all the students will get the same jackets? Do you think all the students will get the same design?
Students will try all sort of funny ideas just to try to be different from others.
You can say the school can sell their own jackets then. But, will students buy it? A jacket that never even use once a month, will students buy it? Students will say 'Ahh why waste my money when i never even use it once a month and besides I have mine at home', isn't it? -

Some times when i see a small kids bullying thier maid by shouting at them... I feels that such rudeness and arrogant behaviour exists due to some parents who are just being too pampered to thier children.
I don't wish the future of singapore colapse just because of ppl like this.

Yeah I agree with you on this point. Some of them have no basic respect for other people... some of them even scold their parents in public. Ok it might humiliate her and insult her dignity, but isn't the rules made known to the students beforehand? So why do the girl still break the rules even after knowing that its not allow? Isn't she asking for it?
Besides, there are bound to have some that break the rules more than once even after knowing what the punishment is. If that is the case, is the word humiliate and dignity even exist in that girl?

To discipline this kind of untouchable kids are non other then the parents itself...
We can't simply get involved in such matter directly.

Maybe they should remind students what the rules are after every long holiday. And most importantly what are the consequences if you do not follow them. Get the parents to read it and sign it. If you cannot follow this rules, please get your child out...
Thus is they break any rules, the teachers can say,' look mama, you agreed with us...'
I wish it is as simple as what I suggested but hey, that's how schools used to be... last time is parent request to cane the child on teacher's behalf and must teacher stop parent... now... haiz... -

If I have a daughter in that school , and she wears colored undergarments out of rebellion - I appreciate if they inform me first and I will go burn the colored undergarments she own and make sure to send her off to school with proper undergarments fitting of a young lady in a proper uniform.
If they make her take it off and wait for me to come while letting her wander about braless , there will be HELL to pay and I will start with Sexual Harassment charges of a minor against all of them especially MALE TEACHERS and PRINCIPAL who instigated this rule. I will blow it up until MOE level. Basically I will make it hell on earth for them for taking away her dignity.
As for toilet lights - if they switch it off 24/7 and my kid gets injured - I will make sure that they are liable for damages .
I have a tolerance for school policies as long as they are reasonable. If they cut off her fringe after written warnings - I will just laugh at her . If they cut off her fringe without warning - I will go after them. -

Don't tell me u ppl are going to attract attention just by wearing those fancy color or types of garments to school. You ppl understand very well that ur school uniform is white n when u r wet it can be seen thru. If u want be some famous SLUT then the school is not meant for you ppls.

As for color undergarments - read carefully - they make them go braless. Now I feel that is outrageous. That is not helping the matter. How would you like your male classmates to stare at u braless? Coercing them into removing their bras especially in a conservative culture is considered sexual harassment and any parent will be furious.
Girls with long fringes. . Yes no one told them to keep their hair unruly but it is only fair to issue a warning before proceeding with the punishment. If the warning is not heeded, you proceed with the punishment .
We are not talking about open student rebellion or rioting here. We are talking about senseless punishments. How are children to know that they are in the wrong if it is not explained to them or if they are not warned? Alot of things are not stipulated in school rules and it is unfair to punish them suddenly when the school rules have an unwritten change.
One has to be reasonable with punishing teenagers or children.
You want conformity? Make the teachers conform - no long fringes for the teachers, no colored undergarments etc. I remembered a teacher of mine who like to wear see thru clothing and miniskirts almost like some hooker on geylang. That should be a bad example by your logic.
They are a model for these students and surely you cannot have a double standard. If they can't conform , then these kids shouldn't be punished severely for trivial matters either. What the teachers do or wear out of school , I don't care. -

alternately...contact some newpaper journalist n spill all ur unhappiness to them...feed them with some juicy happenings in your school...
OR you can post something in STOMP or our local ST paper..
by getting negative advertising, the school n moe will be notified and,hopefully, the school u are in now will come to some senses...
