If you truly feel strongly about it, you should just go HNITEC.
Forcing yourself to take "O" level will do no one any good.
For a student to do well in their studies, you must be MOTIVATED.
If you are not interested in "O"level, then don't.
Some people are more inclined to textbook/academia some are better with hands on and work based studies. -

Perhaps they are just worried you end up like any blue collars stuck in a low grade job. And since these blue collars jobs are hiring mostly cheaper foreigners, you will have a hard time competing with them.
First you need to make a comparison on the subjects you need to take in both courses.
Then you tell them your academic path for the two courses.
You need to convince them there is a higher path which you are determined to take.
They need to see that you know what you are doing and that you have charted your path clearly.
Most parents believes their children don't know any better, but in fact, most actually do.
