maybe the topic starter was abit too hash on commenting on NS.... Indeed I had some very bad experience in it but looking back it has its good and 'fun' points... at least it makes us more independent...
But i do feel 2.5 years is a tad too long.. for what i have learnt from NS, i felt at most 1.5 years is more then sufficient to learn what i have learnt.
I do feel we need NS, but i think we can cut it down by a year.. -

Yes i agree with you that ns is a waste of time to certain people like me because im stuck in a totally farked up place. which i should not reveal in public. I'm forced to stay in when i see no apparent reason for it. I just sit around the whole damn day doing almost nothing other than cleaning the drains behind my workshop. My superiors are hokkien speaking, tatoo clad, specialist regulars who had to sign on because they couldn't find a job in the private sector. I'm treated as if i owe them a living. I do agree that ns is important to a certain extent. but Mindef should review what is really happening to everyone who passes out from BMT. i do agree that majority of those who went to OCS and Sispec have a more "useful" vocation in the army after they pass out. but Mindef should bear in mind that majority of the nsfs do not make it to OCS or Sispec due to medical problems. and these people are still able and willing to help in other areas. the government is underestimating what we are able to contribute by chucking us in some god forsaken place. i am struggling to maintain my sanity in my screwed up place and i hope i will be able to last until i ord.

You know, you are just one number or code that is categorized under some label in the overall data sheet. Heng, try to bring in the real thing using a golf bag, wear golfer's clothes and get a tan (remember to leave your left plam fairer that your right.
