What is there to look down on? When the chinese were prospering during the Tang Dynasty, the Europeans were still hunting in the jungle.Originally posted by Doenitz:look down on us....
When you next see that, remind them that they are soft as dead squids.Originally posted by Doenitz:condescending attitude towards local guys smaller size than them...
They are being looked down on in their own country. that's why they behave this way when they are here. (or is it because they behave this way, they are being looked down on by their own kind in their hometown?) In any case, they are not being wanted back in their home country. Otherwise, they won't choose to come here.Originally posted by Doenitz:Most recently in the papers there was the bread throwing incident where the ang mohs think that they can do anything they want with our local gals.
This is not the period of colonialism anymore,man...

What's all this schoolboy nickel-and-dime Jackie-Chan-fantasy nonsense anyway? Is that supposed to prove something besides a serious inferiority complex?
As for SmallPanda, going around with this pissant hero complex and claiming to beat up white boys, what makes him so different from the louts that he sees himself as the great defender from? The only thing it shows is that he's one of them, only of a different colour and in a different country.
What a crock - grow up.
In my case, I am both.Originally posted by Doenitz:I tell you,the saying "what matters is the size of the fight in the dog rather than the size of the dog in the fight" is true.
Thanks but you can keep your two cents.Originally posted by subudei:Wouldn't you guys agree with my belief that Western society and Western media are obsessed with belittling the Chinese race and undermining its dignity? It keeps depicting Chinese women as cheap sex objects and Chinese men as non-entities. Both Western society and media keep putting forward images of Chinese women mated with Western (meaning white Caucasian) men. Well, just my two cents', anyway. If I'm right, this is something which needs to be fought against.
You're SICK MAN....Originally posted by SmallPanda:Guys!! Why do you all sound so scared of angmo?
Trust me, having gone to school in a white country for many years they are definitely NOT tough guys. I used to beat the shit out of them all them time. Me against a whole bunch of them me against 5 or 6 or 7 of them. I beat the shit out of all of them!![]()
Its all in the attitude okay? Even if you are small just beat them with a bat or something. Myself i am only 80 kg, but very muscular and ferocious and an attitude that other people are just inferior to me. So beat the shit out of these people! Just imagine them pissing on your mother or something to get yourself very angry first, then smash their face! Its all in your attitude! Be aggressive!![]()
In Hollywood, Germans are portrayed as high-tech bad guys, Russians are mob figures or out-of-work KGB agents, Italians are slimy Romeos, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Arnie keep playing the same roles, so what's your point? It's not so much a racial stereotype as pandering to the lowest common denominator to deliver a product that is easily recognisable and can therefore be sold without need for too much interpretation. Like you said, we'd have to question how much Hollywood movies can be counted as art.Originally posted by subudei:Lingos, there is no need to be rude.
Lucy Liu and Michelle Yeoh were set up as, and continue to be set up as, decorative sex objects (albeit with a kick-ass gongfu element, just to play to their Orientalism). And the West always depicts their partners as white caucasian men.
And your very examples of Asian men in Western cinema prove my point - Asian men, especially Chinese men, are only ever given an airing when they play stereotyped gongfu ass-kicking pugilists. Outside of this limited role, Chinese men are almost never depicted as normal people.
In Western portrayals of 'normal' people (i.e. people who do not happen to be gongfu ass-kicking pugilist stereotypes), Chinese men are virtually non-existent. The sole exceptions would maybe be Chow Yun Fatt in The Corruptor and that Chinese (or is he Korean?) guy on Law and Order. In Western productions that are not about ass-kicking gongfu, Chinese men are almost never present, but Chinese women are found with far greater frequency, and almost invariably with white caucasian men in their beds.
Lingo, your point about how Chinese women are sleeping with white caucasian men in real life reinforces my point, by illustrating how this unbalanced media portrayal of Chinese-Western relationships causes life to imitate art. (Well, if you can call a lot of what comes out of Hollywood these days 'art')
Just like the way you're bragging about beating up wimps, hero? Seriously, no one cares about your boyhood fantasies, although I have to admit it makes good comedy.Originally posted by SmallPanda:Lingos, good for you! Enjoy yourself with caucasians!
But seriously, no one cares, lady.
Why are you spouting off in a Singapore forum when you are not even one anymore? Its weird how you keep going on and on about caucasians as if they were something mystical or something.
I have been there and lived there way longer than you, and know more than you. So like, shut up or something?![]()
Originally posted by edwinSSM:Fair enough, Edwin, if you qualify it as your own experience. Personally, after 10 years in Australia, I've never had anyone laugh at my height or size. If anything, whenever spoke to me about being Chinese, it was to discuss the culture - these weren't just uni students either, but also people I've met at work, in pubs, restaurants and other places. It was all very civilised, and I neither shied away from the locals or went looking for a fight because there was no need to.
I think all of u are watching too much Hollywood movies... From my personal experience:
In Australia
U can say they are always making fun of chinese. Bump into one and they would most likely than not laugh at our height and size.
In USA
No bad experience encountered, I give them a thumbs up.
In Singapore
Hmm... This is a tough call, I would say caucasians in SG behave relatively well, except when they are drunk.
