people ur comments pls. thanks!![]()
Hi Lennie, just curious how will lower octane affect the car in the long term? And how long is the term? If it takes 5 years for 92Ron to 'affect' the car then i am not too bothered. Will it still affect the car if i switch between 'octanes'?Originally posted by lennie:Tedz, it must be ron 95 min(as stated in our car manual) and high octane means better blah blah blah obviously(though some will disagree).......lower octane such as ron 92 will not destroy the car blah blah blah immediately but long time usage of it will definately the affect the car blah blah blah because our friend(s) from hiroshima says Ron 95 minimum for K12.......

hey lennie, thanks for the reply. think we should follow the manual to use 95 minimium. also read somewhere that lower octane will gradually affect the car's engine.Originally posted by lennie:Tedz, it must be ron 95 min(as stated in our car manual) and high octane means better blah blah blah obviously(though some will disagree).......lower octane such as ron 92 will not destroy the car blah blah blah immediately but long time usage of it will definately the affect the car blah blah blah because our friend(s) from hiroshima says Ron 95 minimum for K12.......

for my marchie, i pump 98 all the time ...but i go to SPC as i get 12% off but when i m in m'sia, always pump 98 'cos cheap mah... (think i have to go there more offen)
in fact you will save some fuel when octance lower 'cos it will evaporate so fast like 98 esp if u park under hot sun most of the time. so far by switching to 95 i oso managed to improve fuel consumption by almost 10%. .......???
petrol are jus fuel only.....what the most important is how u maintain ur vehicle not what u pump in...anyway fuel is use to burn not service ur vehicle , but its wise to save ur pockets too !!!!!!![]()
Hihi....yep, thats the guy i summon twice at serangoon north......heehee, love his LV design........next time invite him down to kallang carpark where we meet up.....Originally posted by lennie:i met this guy_LV MARCHIE(orange k12) in the course of my work, his name is hyde.Apparently, one of you guys did paste a note on his windscreen quite sometime back but he is yet to check this site.He is into Mod(performance) he has done extractor mods, de-cat and many more... and he is one heck of mod dude and he is also planning to dress up the seats, door panels with LV material, so when you see him just say "hi Hyde' i bet that will scare the shit out of him...hehehhehehehehh...btw he is a nice guy ya....
Wow Karmen good website recomendation man. Got some answers from reading them, those who are interested can also go to the website Karmen recommended. Here are somemore extracted:Originally posted by KamenRider:another interesting read:

Consumers should select the lowest octane grade at which the car's engine runs without knocking. Occasional light knocking or pinging won't harm the engine, and doesn't indicate a need for higher octane. On the other hand, a heavy or persistent knock may result in engine damage..."

Don't overfeed your car.
High octane gasoline may be needed for some engines, but find out if yours will run just as well on less. On a nearly empty tank, put in five gallons of a lower octane than you normally use, and if there's no appreciable difference (except for the change in your pocket), find a lower octane gas when that runs out. Keep going until you can tell the difference, then step up one rating. Note: If your engine starts pinging or making other strange noises, increase the octane rating by adding a higer octane gasoline to your tank. This is why you need to test 5 gallons at a time
"most cases, using a higher octane gasoline than your owner's manual recommends offers absolutely no benefit. It won't make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage or run cleaner. Your best bet: listen to your owner's manual."
So in this case Ron 95 as Lennie has mentioned is stated in the March manual.
How Can You Tell If You're Using The Right Octane Level?
Listen to your car's engine. If it doesn't knock when you use the recommended octane, you're using the right grade of gasoline.
One more question How does knocking or pinging sound like? Anyone can do a positive demonstration???
I am also using Ron 92 after the fuel prices escalate and has been trying out various octane, so far not hearing the ding dong ding dong sound that Lennie mentioned and definitely not hearing a donkey in the engine, yoh bro you sure the ding dong is not the yen kong dragging on the floorOriginally posted by Wheels on Fire:How come i remember the manual state RON91 petrol. I have been using 92 petrol since petrol price started escalating few mths back. So far no knocking or other problems. Am i the only one here doing so?![]()
