well i guess most pple already pointed out e more common flaws,
heavy chasis, high FC, slower pick up.
other than tat, guess taller pple wld have prob at e back, cos e new mazda 3 has v low sloping roof...yah...jus a comment from a friend who test drove it..
but u can take e heavy body as an advantage, so e car wld b more stable..
hmmm...after driving it in msia, full load, 5 peeps, max speed is like 140kph before it starts to struggle a bit... -

cant really give much comments as what i want to say is all over the thread.
Slow pickup and high FC from my experiance when driving a M3 for a few times.
Maybe i travelled too much that i got to go petrol station everytime i drove it

If you want to go for a Mazda 3, Go for basic which is going for 62,988,
unless the 2nd air bag, 16 inch wheels, climatic air con, leather steering n gear knob matters alot to you... Dun think abt the RS version...

2) Personally i think i can get the kit way cheaper outside...
If you want budget, go for toyota, If you want build quality, go for honda, mazda, Nissan... Seen too many complains abt Altis, vios and even camry regarding quality issue after 3 years... Mazda's consumption is better than Auto N16 Sunny, but not as good as manual N16 sunny...
But i guess I like the conti feel and the stable drive... Seen some mazdas at IDAC after accident and majiam nothing happen... and seen how my civic was rear ended by a Kia Picanto... and ended up with a bent boot lid, whole wheel well went in... -

btw, when it comes to rear ending...we all should know that front is always heavier or thicker than rear. nothing's new on this information, anyway.
the other information which u should already know is that mazda 3, volvo S40 (variants) and the new Focus are based on the same platform. meaning that all 3 models/brands have slightly the same conti feel, safety and interior spacing, irregardless of whether they are jap or euro brands. the adv of heavier cars are definitely there in the case of an accident. take a lorry and rear end a mazda....u get instant dent.
i've seen my friend's bimmer rear ended an evo 8 n the whole boot + rear bumper of that evo formed a V shape but the bimmer's front only have a slight dent...best part of it, its only a kissed rear ending. can u imagine if my friend is to have a full rear ending to that evo? -
sinicker, try telling ur dad the petrol cost per month + mthly installation + 1 yr insurance + light maintenance...$$ talks, right?
else ask him whether pockets are deep enough and touch his heart to answer the question. just dun want another car buyer to sell off a brand new car after some months due to can't service the loan. its gonna cost u more to sell off...
if not try selling away the bikes. u can't be driving and riding at the same time. -

To normalboi and alot others, i am a friend who has been here since 99, way before i was a sales rep... guess to be fair.. I have never owned a Mazda...
My first car was a 1982 Toyota Starlet, then a 1992 Nissan Sunny B13, and finally i drove my current 2005 Honda Civic... Mazda has good build quality, but i choose the honda myself because i want the power and the fuel economy...
I don't think i am bashing other car makes from a SE point of view(anyway Mazda has a lock in system and I won't make any money from him anyway)... I am just giving my comments from a forumer point of view(which SE will ask customer to go out and buy bodykit cause cheaper, when he can earn out of it??) -

and as for b.kits, can u say if u recommend outside of mazda, ie from a b.kit workshop which u have links, will u not take in a certain percentage of the sales as well? in both cases, whether a customer take from distributor or outside thru recommendation, the SE still earn...difference is how much. i have never come across a sales person that does losing business.

I have my friends here. Are sales reps meant to be lonely and cannot have friends, be mute, and cannot surf forums? IF eugene has not mentioned that i was a mazda sales rep, would you be whacking me? Or are you a "fellow sales rep" who is worried abt me spoiling your business? If you don't know me, dun judge me...
To be very Honest, My honda civic after 38k, air con compressor gave way... i attribute it to my whacking and wear n tear... got some sounds here and there... i got rear ended twice, both times boot lid had to be replaced... compared to my previous sunny... it is really weak... -
we're gg for the luxury version solely because there is climatic aircon and leather steering + gear knob. the auto aircon is the "rave" abt the luxury version.
and selling off the bikes is a no-no. in singapore, riding is still the cheaper, faster way to get around (with per entry parking charges even in town and 60c whole day parking anywhere). the car is mainly for myself(whose parents didnt allow me to take riding because it's dangerous since my 2 elder bros got involved in accidents) and family outings during the weekends/weeknights.
yeah, as much as i like the vios and altis, dad doesnt want it coz' it's thai-made. he too has heard a fair share of complaints frm people outside.
err.. keep the comments coming in guys.. maybe i'll get my dad to read this thread or something. -

Although Mazda 3 has one of the lowest insurance premium among the 1.6 catogery, you should that note, if i remembered correctly, it is an AT. They are not MT unless its mps or rx8. Fuel comsumption would be rather high, this is singapore, even highway drive will be like city drive. The FC is definately one of the issues. The body is heavy, like the chev and opel but as you know, the heavier the body, the more strength the engine got to pull. 11km/ltr, can't really trust wat is written inside.My fren mazda3 1 full tank only around

Its quite true that the stock cars really need additional pushing in the engine.But that can be compensated by some mod on it for better FC and power. Like changing to a open pod, fuel charger,add grounding, racing cable with better spark plug etc.
Aim for MT cars for better FC, currently using lancer MT. FC around 13-15km/ltr. Insurance may be slightly higher then other 1.6 sedan but its still comfortable.
My another fren, who drives matrix MT with fuel saving mod plus super saving driving mode can go up to almost 800 for 1 full tank.
Since you already say that most probably it would be you driving, and for leisure purpose, the mazda 3 would be ok. Harder cover for better protection. But you may want to think first, how long do you plan on using that car. Get the basic configurations and get the mods outside which are cheaper except, for the larger wheels, ask them for trade in. Besides the rims, the rest you can get it outside cheaper. -
we're getting this car as a family car. soon, my bro will also be taking his driving test so that makes it 3 drivers in the family.
getting this car for the reason that i passed driving 2 wks ago and it's my dad's 55th birthday(CPF $ ah).
my dad wants the auto. he pays, he chooses.
if i had my own way, i wud get a lancer MT and modify it.
but i'll have to be a goody driver wiv an AT car.
probably using the car when i enter uni in 2008(on avg, how fast do singaporeans change their car ah?). enlisting NS next month and i guess for now i will only use it for my slacking sessions with friends at simpang bdk/jln kayu and hockey matches during the weekends.
seriously, i think there is no use debating with my dad and we're getting the mazda3. -
on avg shld be 4plus years 5 years to take full advantage of the parf value which below 5yrs is 75% of omv (previously was 130%)... and then it starts to drop after each year...
richer pple change cars every 3 yrs or when their warranty is up after the first 100000km...
then there are those who drive it for 8-10yrs b4 changing but best is the 4plus years region...
and it is subjective to how much loan and how many year scheme u took and of cos when u break even -
Since your dad already confirm about it, the next thing to do is to check thoroughly when purchasing, such as the sales agreement, what are the things they are giving etc. But my advice would be, get the basic configurations except ask them to trade-in for a better sport rim coz they will most probably get a better price then you get yourself outside. The rest of the mods or kits, can get it outside. It will be cheaper. Unless you worry about the insurance about those after-market product. The insurance is base on the sales agreement you had with the company. the sales agreement will state the things which are included with the car at point of purchase. Therefore, if anything happens, you can claim it back in the insurance. For after-market product, it will not be insured. But there are some ways of doing it. Which is not the legal way. hehe...will not comment much about it.
Kits are ez to get nowadays. If you wan better and cheaper kits can go JB...its much cheaper then in SG. But the quality will not be there. Anyway, kits are for apperance..looks nice can already...can last or not is another thing. If you wan to know more about kits or mod, maybe can join mazda club, I believe they have more details for you. -

i own a mazda 6 2.0 and find it pretty ok... didnt really like it in the first place though..
anyway.. i drove a m3 sedan with 4 pple in the car to NS highway.. max i reached was 175km/h.. cannot go further.. i believe its engine cut.. or smth.. bcoz the RPM was not near redline at all.. its very stable and comfortable at that high speed... it was using 16" rims too.. if bigger rims.. should be better..
the disadvantage is m3 is a heavy body for a 1.6 and this also explains the good stability during high speeds.. but if u are willing to put more $ into it.. modifications can be done to have a better pickup..
ask ur dad to consider m6 if $ is not that big an issue.. i didnt like it in the first place bcoz of the plastic feel interior.. but the face lifted one is much better..
with 4 pple in the m6.. i was able to reach 219km/h easily.. and has very little vibrations too.. im comparing it with my previous toyota camry 2.2 which had alot of vibrations at 170km/h and above.. it also took some time to reach 180..
just a lil review on the 2 mazdas that i have driven.. -
