review of victor's kitchen at sunshine plaza...
went to eat dim sum at victor's kitchen today...sunshine plaza was relatively easy to find. the shop itself will need to be adventurous alittle bit though.

basically it is a small eatery with 2 stores. one main shop and another outlet just for tables.that outlet just for tables is air-condition, great for those who can't take the heat, but the main outlet already has air-con from sunshine plaza. but if u mind seating outside with people watching you eat, then go for the one with the outlet
Review:

firstly, utensils. they basically provide chopsticks and one sauce plate and oso a larger sauce plate, possibly use as plates for the dim sums.
I find this quite good as instead of giving u bigger plates, smaller plates actually save more space since their table isn't very big in the first place.

next, the food itself. though the picture isn't very clear, but this is actually the prawn dumpling with parsley.
tast is not bad, if u aren't afraid of eating parsley. but the filling is quite compact with visible prawns and meat. but the skin is alittle dry. not sure how is this so also.
3.5/5

next, we have the siew mai and custard bun. the siew mai is okie only, not awesome as i have eaten better siew mais. again the dry skin problem occured again.
3/5

the milky custard bun is very good indeed. it tasted alittle like the custard u get in egg tarts but much much smoother. it also had this little salted egg within the filling. helps the bun filling to have different layers of taste. the skin of the bun is quite good oso. soft and easy to chew, unlike those that gives u a dry dry feeling in your throat after eating.
4/5

now we have the char siew cheong fun. the char siew cheong fun is pretty good. alittle bit on the salty side but the cheong fun is really soft. the char siew is cut into rectangular bite size, thus you can actually bite char siew instead of don't know what you are biting. mixing the cheong fun and char siew together, putting it in your mouth and biting it, gives you different layers of chewing the cheong fun. i say this is better than most cheong funs u see on the streets.
i also tried the prawn cheong fun, though my counterparts prefered the char siew cheong fun, i like the prawn cheong fun for its generousity of the prawns they give.
4.5/5

this is the scallop, sausage carrot cake. this was really good. i order two portions in fact. the carrot cake is not what you see normally on the streets. soft and watery, it doesn't fit the normal image of how carrot cakes should look like but boy does it taste good.
extremely soft and favourful, the carrot cake was very tasty and unique. what happens is that the carrot cake absorbs all the gravy you see in the picture, thus u will never get a dull carrot cake in your mouth.
the taste it gives in your mouth is such as it melts in your mouth with all that flavour. great for old people without teeth who still likes carrot cake. the lak cheong in the carrot cake gives it a different texture instead of just soft carrot cake. downside was i couldn't really see any scallop nor taste it.
4.5/5
Other food i tried without pictures was the king prawn dumpling. the skin again wasn't fantastic but they had two prawns per dumpling, which was quite generous of them i would say.
3.5/5
i also tried the spare ribs with black bean sauce.it was quite good though wasn't awesome. i bet there are better spareribs out there.
3.5/5
i wanted to try the luo mi chicken, but too bad they didn't have it anymore, should have been quite good considering how the family beside me finish it off without a grain of rice left.
thirdly: service. the service was quite good actually, the boss and stuff serve patiently and even was able to make jokes. they even automatically provide fork and plates when we had some cakes at their premises. tables were clear quite promptly as they probably have only a couple of stuff cleaning tables. i would say they served with a smile...
4/5
Overall, the experience at Victor's Kitchen was quite good. some of their dish were really good, some are average and definately there are better ones outside.
a downside is the variety they have(only 24 dishes). a pity i didn't had the finance to try all their dish(not to mention the stomach). especially some dishes that was recommanded, eg the he ye chicken.
the waiting time was quite okie, though we did went during the off peak hour.
i would give Victor's Kitchen a 4/5 for some of their food and overall service. quite a place worth visiting.
