I'm sure the German government is watching the situation unfold and thinking that Japan could have avoided this whole mess if its leaders did not constantly choose to live in denial and pretend that history never happened.
I'm against the eye for an eye approach btw, thats justs ridiculous. Its past history. However, the japanese government has to come to terms with its past once and for all, or relations with its former victims will always be strained(except for Singapore of course). -
you are thinking too highly of germany. the only thing they did was acknowledged their war crimes. most of the NAZIs are still hiding in argentina. rich and live to a ripe old age. That is very true, and in fact quite a number of their scientists, even those involved in war crimes were recruited by the US government after WW2. Then how do you explain the cordial relations between France and Germany (the bedrock of the EU) as well as those ties between Italy and the rest of Europe? But Malaysia also suffered heavily as a result of WW2, so why did their government advocate a Japanese work ethic in the 80s? -

I'd like to point out that there are a significant number of Taiwanese who have Japanese ancestry. IMO, the biggest mistake is allowing the royal family of Japan to continue as titular heads of state. The associations between the royals, militarists and the old conglomerates was certainly too close for comfort in the decade from 1939 onwards.
If those above-mentioned governments had a choice, I doubt they'd even choose a Japanese investor if the company was even indirectly responsible for war crimes. There had been allegations in the past that VW made use of slave labour during WW2, but as to whether these were later found to be unfounded or the case was settled out of court, I am not so sure.
Here, we are talking about accepting responsibility for wrongdoing, instead of glossing over it and claiming such actions were justified. -

japan had the right to initiate war and they did it when they were already considered developed at that time. they went to war to acquire resources and land to give their economy an extra boost and it worked like a charm
japan had the right to go on the offensive. other asian countries need not deny themselves this same right.
there's no reason why we should only have the right to defend but not attack
going on offensive and bringing the war into the other country has the advantage of the element of surprise and reducing civilian casualty and property loss back home
