Actually the profit didn't reall drop that much. Its all thanks to the Income tax credit.
I didn't follow much on the SMRT news about retrenchment over the year. But if the retrenchments were true, then why didn't the "Staff and related cost" decrease significantly in 2005 compared to 2004? New accounting standards? Wonder where did all the savings from staff retrenchment go to? hmm.... -

Note that shares of transport companies in singapore can never really fall, bcos there is little competition in the industry. Take a look at SBS transit shares...it used to be trading at $1.40 last year...it last traded at $2.33...The moment they increase fare prices, it will definitely hit $2.46 -
That rather redundent circle line's still "building in progress"... that project alone 's very very costly... perhaps thats one of the reasons why profits dropped... but again did the government set up for a poll whether we citizens want to have the circle line?
I used to live around that area...i feel that buses there are more convenient..and since the area's not so that big... it's just like the most half an hour to get from a place to another by bus.. and it sends you to the doorstep.. they should have spent some $ improving the bus system instead....rather than building that circle line... and this way they can save alot! Haiz if they thought this way......
Anywayz whats done is done... just sharing my thoughts though...

but very true. It seems singaporeans are not given a chance to break out of the mold. Either that or they are afraid to risk, or even worse settle for a mediocre existence. -

Taxi drivers have their fair share of troubles too. They are paying for the same rental amount despite having more taxis on the road (where is the law of supply and demand?). The culprite is the taxi companies and not them. The taxi companies will earn when the taxis are rented out.
