I wrote in many job applications and by phone calls also, but when they ask your age, they say sorry they want somebody below 40, all candidates above 40 they dont employ, can somebody tell me why it is hard to find job if u r above 40? I have 2 children to feed, people borrow money from loan shark to gamble, but I borrow money to buy milk powder, and pay for my electricity, Imagine 2 months jobless, cant support a family, somemore bus fare so expensive, go interview take bus also need money and come back ask u wait for phone call but they never called.Originally posted by margarita:its an employer's market .. wat to do?

I think interview just for show only, they already decide the candidate prior to that. What to do this is singapore, the employer prefers foreigners which is cheaper , younger and no need to pay CPF. Our system is wrong I think, what do u think, please tell me.
hmm recently? or quite a while ago?Originally posted by gentlerock:Then last three major interviews I've attended were conducted at:
(1) Equatorial Hotel Singapore, pub.
(2) Hyatt Hotel Singapore, pub.
(3) Eaton Hotel Hong Kong, lobby and restaurant.![]()

The Hotel Equatorial one was about 8 years back. It was my ex-boss trying to get me back to work under him. I didn't take it up due to personal differences between him and me. We were there at the pub in the evening just after work, so there was no band playing yet.Originally posted by Peppermint:hmm recently? or quite a while ago?
btw nice question you have there by asking 'how do you see my strengths and weaknesses affecting my application?".
Hey, I'm really sorry to hear about your plight.Originally posted by t_a_s:I wrote in many job applications and by phone calls also, but when they ask your age, they say sorry they want somebody below 40, all candidates above 40 they dont employ, can somebody tell me why it is hard to find job if u r above 40? 3 hrs 45 minutes?? So long? Or it includes waiting for the interviewer to appear?Originally posted by dragg:i went for an interview yesterday for a branch supervisor position. i was 3 hrs 45 minutes into the interview when i finally decided to give up.
can you believe it?
So FireIce, did they call you for the interview?Originally posted by FireIce:mai
i oni want that job............
Agreed, especially for SMEs in Singapore. The bosses think the candidates are stupid which in fact the candidates are not. Once get enough experience, will sure leave the company. SMEs will forever remain as SMEs for this narrow-minded thinking of trying to squeeze every penny worth out of employees. They always forget to count in the opportunity cost of new employees needing time to learn the working system and the real money cost of disgruntled ex-employees bringing customers to their new employers.Originally posted by ha8n:these scerarios mayb havent scatch the surface ,the super worse r those bosses hv morbid intentions (they are sly n cung in their mind)

the interview involves about 12 people. some came one hour late yet allowed to participate.Originally posted by Cindyfeh:3 hrs 45 minutes?? So long? Or it includes waiting for the interviewer to appear?
Wow, yes quite elaborative for a branch supervisor interview. Was it a big MNC? Normally only big MNCs have such elaborative interviews.Originally posted by dragg:the interview involves about 12 people. some came one hour late yet allowed to participate.
first part - presentation, 1 hr
second part - essay test, 1 hr
3rd part - interview, 1 hr
all only for the position of branch supervisor.
i dont understand why they need to be so elaborate.
for one moment i thought they are offering a marketing director post.

One of my favourite things to do (if I'm not interested in the job already) is to answer, telling them my strengths and weaknesses, then immediately ask them "how do you see my strengths and weaknesses affecting my application?". Then you see them taken aback, frantically searching for some intelligent answers.
Fundamentally every applicants want the job. So why should the company give the job to you?Originally posted by kaobeikaobu:just say lim bei want this job.
thank you.Originally posted by Cindyfeh:Wow, yes quite elaborative for a branch supervisor interview. Was it a big MNC? Normally only big MNCs have such elaborative interviews.

hmm. Is it a branch manager post rather than supervisor post?Originally posted by dragg:thank you.
anyway that company with the long, elaborate interview is none other than our beloved NTUC Fairprice.

its definitely a branch supervisor post.Originally posted by Cindyfeh:hmm. Is it a branch manager post rather than supervisor post?
I know each NTUC store has many supervisors but only 1 or 2 branch managers.
