You should always error on the side of safety. For every 10 guys who keng there is one who is seriously ill. Any Medicial doctors/ MO who spend the time inteorrgating their patient, instead of trying to find out what's actually wrong with him has forgotten the oaf that they had taken when they became doctors. It's not their jobs to catch a faker. In this case, leave that up to the military personnel. I'm sure they won't like it if the CO was there giving the diagnosis in his place. -

Actually in this unfortunate incident, the SAF becomes the good guy.

And the report like a bit confusing.
It wrote MO, then bracket "medical officer", then a few lines below they described Dr Benjamin Koh as "medical officer" on duty. So this Dr Koh (shouldn't SAF MOs be addressed by rank?) is from SAF or NUH? -
In the first place, if the fking army training had not been tough and unreasonable, there wouldn't be anybody "kenging" in the army and taking MC. Next, what makes them think that I owe two years of my life to SAF just because i was born here, in the f***ed up trash country? Most people wouldn't do their NS seriously, as they are not doing it willingly. The men in the Army were painstakingly raised by their parents from birth till they were 18 years old. But what happens here in stupid SG? Get sent to "NS" to serve this country shit and in the end get mistreated as if NSmen were dogs. Can u imagine the pain of the parents if their child had been killed or injured due to mistreatment? And whats more, they were forced into doing NS, so they deserve better treatment. If I had a chance, i wouldn't be staying in this damned place.

Many of my foreign friends in my school studying wanted to convert to PR status, but I told them if u wan to convert PR go do it in another country, what for do it here in this goddamned place and serve NS for nothing.

I think in this case the MO is not to blame. It was the fault of the NUH doctors who were too complacent about the NSF's condition. Also, the way in which the hospital treated the family is uncaring and inhumane. The culprits ought to be severely censured for this.

after reading the whole thread, there r a few things tt i wan to say:
1st, aviva insurance onli applies for saf personnel who haf subscribed to the grp insurance, n the amt of cover depends on the individual...it is a term insurance which is NOT compulsory...
2nd, all male doctors who goes thru medical sch in s'pore(i.e nus) will haf served as MOs as part of their nsf liability after their deferment n studies...(correct mi if i am wrong)...personally met a few doctors (GPs) who changed their attitude when they noe tt i am a nsf...they ask things like why i dun go to my MO but instead go to a polyclinic etc...the onli doctors who treated mi like a normal patient r priv GPs who earned their degrees abroad...
3rd, Straits times online now require login... -
Whatever happens, the guy is dead. The gf can't get over it as yet and the family is seeking closure.
Even if the doctor is sanctioned and suspended indefinitely, a person's life was lost, all because NUH medical practices and doctrines were not sufficient or were not carried out with due dilligence.
It seems NUH has never learnt from it's lessons. Their hospital has pretty much the worst record of patients who have died through negligence or mishaps (not including TTS which was the primary cell for SARS).
I hope the administration is taken to task as in LTA for the circle line collapse. -

believe me,the government ministers etc have changed the treatment and training in ns by alot as compared to before.what still makes it so torturing is that those bloody sergeants and officers inside who were treated like shit before during their training time has this sick mentality of what i get you shall get it too and thats why ns training will always be the same old shit.becuz people can't change and believe they whatever they received before,they will pass it on to you.

Enforcement of directives and removal of loopholes of abuse will go a long way to securing the safe and professional future of the SAF,not to mention upping the respectability it desires.
