Much depends on what the specialist wrote...if he recommended downgrade based on a condition that is not downgradable accroding to SAF doctrines, the MO will ignore it. Remember once there was a fella with a letter from his specialist who said should downgrade cos' morbid obesity. yes only for 2 yeears....after ORd when he comes back for reservist he is back to his old fat self again..defeats the purpose rite? Parents should also shoulder part of the responsibility, they have pampered their kids so much that youngsters nowadays act like chao ah guas and can't take any hardship. They would then try to keng during NS to avoid tough assignments.

It's okay to toughen up your kids for the real world, but to bring them up in a way just so that they are best suited for NS is putting NS up on a pedestal way too high.

heng at there 10 weeks only,book out only onces on the 1st wk coz the rest burn,kana confinment until pass out.the best is the ps got a weekend car and allow those to book out only after 3 pm saturday(he a sadist i can tell u more sick thing he do to tekan).thats was nearly 10 years ago liao lah and was lucky i still live
prob becos nuh to near to MMI, so got the SAF medical corp influence...
this is a lesson learnt for a yaya fresh grad...at the expense of someone's life...so sad...
the aftermath is even sadder...y can't the family qn the nuh ppl? n why can't they make an effort to translate to mandarin? simply bo chup n yaya...r they implying tt s'pore doctors cannot make explanations in mandarin?(nvm the technical terms) so how do they make it to medical college if their mandarin r ****up? call them the 'elites'...who dun give a damn abt the lives of 'commoners'... -
From my personal experience, most MOs I come across do the same thing:-
"ASSUME CHOW KENG UNTIL PROVEN SICK"
I know there are good ones but if most of the MOs I come across have this kind of attitude, how do you expect me to trust the SAF medical core.
During my service days, I always see the doctor that I have always went outside, atleast they know u and dun put up the MO attitude. I dun go to the hospital or polyclincs, they are useless also, once they know "Orhhh!, U are NSF ah" their attitude change liao, they dig up their MO attitude, sianz sia....
That is why I rather get the proper treatment from the doctor I know, be cured and get it over with even though I know my MC is not reconginse then going to the Medical Centre to get the f**k-up attitude.
Again, this is my experience only, not generalising. -

Last time a few yrs back, i have a chao keng warrant officer tat will take mc from MO almost every forth night, he juz go to the MO n say here pain there pain n instantly a 1 to 2 days Atten C, WTF. Unfair treatment leh... Regular can keng, we cannot keng ah. Why so respect regular n give them face? Why they dun look deeper into it, its not the regular tat keep the army running, its us the NSF who keep it running, without the majority NSF can the army survive with juz those regulars?? Some more we nsf r the tax payer now n future, their pay is wat we contribute hence pls wake up their idea. The car they drive, the child they bring up, the house they live r all from our money hence pls wake up ur idea once again. I know regulars do pay tax but without the tax payer do they have the chance to pay the tax?? So MO u listen, the money u earn r from the nsf, so pls dun assume us as chao keng, instead u should thanks us. Wake up ur idea once again. Study so much also dunno how to think how to becum MO n so call doctor. Wake up ur idea, bugger doc...

Actually things much better now compared to 20 years ago...ok lah...I know I am ancient telling old stories. But I remember going to a medical centre long time ago...there were a couple of men in full battle order (SBO, helmet, full pack, minus rifles) outside the medical centre. They were reporting sick but must run around the quadrangle a few times in full battle order, then can report sick.
The encik said that was to discourage people from trying to keng...certainly worked....I wouldn't want to report sick for a sorethroat...might as well do SOC.. -

but i feel that while it shows that some things were done when we compare to x years ago, thats not really the point. the point here is that there is somethign wrong, even if it is better than 10 years ago it doesn't mitigate the fact that somethign is wrong and somethign should be done -
