Meet up frequently? I'm sure they took up PR for a reason here. Meeting up frequently is not one of them. Those who do meet up are like "I have no other singaporean friends here, I find you, you find me."
All the above is my own perspective. Maybe someone else thinks otherwise. -

Price-wise, compared to Singapore, in Australia:
- taxes are higher
- cars and houses are cheaper
- it's more expensive to eat out
- it's cheaper to cook at home
- if you know where to shop, clothes prices aren't all that different
Overall, ditzy's right - it's about the same, except that owning your own home and car is probably a more realistic option in Australia.
In terms of lifestyle, it's a matter of personal taste, I guess. I've never regretted migrating.
As for meeting up with Singaporeans, I don't make a distinction. It doesn't matter if they're Aussie or Singaporean - if I like 'em, I'll hang out with them, and if I don't, tough. -
arrgh its not easy tho i think.I read the general skill migration booklet and you need like a degree/diploma + a few yrs work experience and satisfy the pt system....at times like this getting a job related to your discipline of study and stay in the job without getting sacked/retrenched for 2 yrs seems hard..or can go there get a dip/degree and study there for 2 yrs..but the expenses for uni studies and living expenses are pretty high...even getting in with the other easier options that do not need the pt system doesnt seem easy..
any fellow migrated aussies care to share how they manage to adapt to a new environment there and hows the job market
i am still curious how some O level holders managed to study uni there.I read the entry reqs for uni is like a diploma/ 'A' level results -
that's the advantage of an overseas education over a singapore one..

However, several years in a foreign country changes one's perspective of Singapore. And not necessarily for the better.
Just prior to graduating in '91, I was offered a job by an IT firm that was willing to sponsor an H1-B work visa application on my behalf; I've been here since then, and am currently a PR with a pending citizenship application.
As for marketable job skills, IT used to be the hot ticket here back in the nineties, until the bubble burst around 2001. Since then, corporate downsizing and outsourcing have put a significant dent in that job market, although it is slowly recovering.
The nursing profession, however, remains in overdrive due to the continuing shortage of qualified nurses in this country. A foreign student graduating with a nursing degree is almost guaranteed a job here.
So if you don't mind being a nurse...

In spore there is a couple of agents who will help you with this. Of coz u have to pay them. I went through agents and let them do the paperworks for me.
If u are going through skilled migration, then you have to prepare lots of documents. Especially reference letter from your previous employers! Gosh i find the whole thing tedious. -

yes actually if u have a degree they just want proof for 3 yrs relevant working experience
for a diploma it's 6 years. -
There's limit to how long you can recieve unemployment benefits and you have to prove that you've been trying to find a job. And it's no more than $300 a month. a lot of ang mohs spend the "rest of their life" in asia .. like philippines .. get a asian young pretty wife .. open a motel or restuarant n let the wife run .. put the rest of their money in the bank n live on interest ..

Come to Australia.....not too far from Asia but still distant enough to escape the madness.
True, can be boring if you don't know how to spend your time or if you don't know where the best places are.
Take it from me, an ex-Singaporean, I migrated and never looked back. If you've never stayed abroad, don't listen to all the BS other people say. Try it for yourself and you'll probably find that the PAP smear party has been trying to pull the wool over your eyes and that Singapore is far from the utopia that your government wants to portray it as.
The best part? No more SAF100 asking me to go back and serve. I kissed the army GOODBYE! -
