but what can be felt is that this incident is also changing people's perception
on our local charity scene.. a blanket boycott? hopefully not! quite bad...it's defintely a very
discouraging and negative sign to the people who's really in need.. just
hope other charities receive donations as per norm..

If the word "peanuts" were substituted with a reasonable word like ermmm..... "reasonable" , there won't be such a hooha about it.

My mom told me about her donation just yesterday, while i'm reading ST.
'I saw Zoe Tay shook the dice and very very difficult like that. So i call to donate lor. Anyway $5 dollars only mah.
but when the phone bill came. It was $50+ for the donation! Why ah? i very sim tia!'
I stared at her for a long long time......angry and sad.
So she belong to the portion of people who complain but still support.
Wake up.... -

The thing is, everyone dares to stand up to Durai for his actions.
I very much doubt that anyone has the guts to stand up to Mrs Goh's remarks. Just take a look at this forum and the petition... you see lots of comments about the peanuts issue. But did you see any mention of peanuts in today's papers? No....
I'll best be off now. I'm sick of peanuts. I'm better off with my chocolate fudge cookies.
They are worth a lot less than $600K, but I bought them with my money fair and square. -
Yep, it seems the "focus" is shifting directly towards the top management instead of doing a broad report on the entire affair, including the "peanut" statement. let's not blanket boycott all charities but anyway i believe people also won't lah....
in fact, even with the knowledge of nkf's huge reserves that can last them at least the next 8 years - 30 years, with the knowledge of nkf's dishonesty to mis-state their number of patients, with the knowledge of nkf's smokescreen that they paid out $30m for dialysis treatment of patients when they only out of pocket $7m and patients still had to pay out the other $24m.... people are still gonna donate....see the CNA report....
donation is like a habit and a conscience. many would consider that it is only a miserable $5 donation that they make and they forget that many $5 pooled together = a big BUCKET of $$ POOL...that could have gone to other charities as well....
the right action action would be for SPH to write up more abt the other worthy causes. showcase the true "volunterism" and true "charitable actions". many people would not know abt the smaller charities as they would think everything else not nkf falls under the govt BUT this is NOT TRUE. SPH has a new duty - charged with finding worthy causes for Singaporeans to donate to and not let Singaporeans continue donating to some fiasco "business corporation".
at the heart of it all, nkf has spent money to run the NPO like a business, building a brandname that many Singaporeans becomes obliged to donate to... there are many other truely charities that could not have afforded such expenses and don't say 5 years of reserves, they probably hardly any reserves at all.
we cannot depend on the govt to take all censor directions. the public let it be known and charge our newspaper with the duty to find us an alternative... this is positive action.... let our hardearned monies pour into worthy causes that our hearts agree to... let the unworthy causes dwindle off....
remember the goodness of people will make them want to donate to help the needy. that's why 2/3 of Singaporeans support nkf.... we need to show people that there are other worthy charities to donate to to help these unfortunate people in need. many Singaporeans could live in the dark not knowing that many other support organizations exist.... we need the powress of a big communication tool to convey out the rite message and the time to strike is when the iron is hot too...otherwise sentiments soften with time....
As for nkf, they should move their funds from reserve into action to help their pool of 1800 patients and not beg for more money on telly. that is the message we should advertise and spread.
i sincerely hope the SPH or any other worthy journalistic avenues would take into serious consideration what i have shared here and set the wheels in motion. also, i believe proper and full coverage should also be duplicated in the other languages as many naive Singaporeans tend to read the Chinese papers as well as not all of them can read English..... all those aunties and uncles should be informed...... -

there are many hotlines,
but the TCS artists always promote the hotlines meant for "bulk donation",
i.e one call is equivalent to 10 calls.
keep shouting "Five dollars Five dollars... " when they actually meant each donation is $5, but ONE call is equivalent to TEN donations
Cheapskate tactic... Although many ppl kanna conned into calling the "bulk donation", but they seldom complain because this is for the sake of charity
I wonder issit NKF that teach the TCS artists to use such tactics. -

Wonder how much Mediacrap gets from NKF? Must be a pretty healthy share of the 'peanuts'. Just look at how many shows NKF has sponsored on TV... MEdiacrap must be scared now because they've received a lot of money from NKF.

Can't wait for the President election. I think many will vote for the non-PAP backed candidate. If there is no PAP-backed candidate, many could be casting void votes. -

She is not specific to which staff Durai addressed? Was it to the top management staff whose bonus are similar to him? or did it include the bottom staff?
