NS is just mixed with all the tekangings... I'm not much of a disciplined person...
So military life sure sucks for me but those include some good times I would say. So, NS for me still acceptable but for some of my friends is like... total waste of time... too much torture turn a person mad...
Well, not only physical but mental as well... It will definitely depends on individuals and what vocation they served as... -
Why don't you forward your views to the Chairman of a particular statutory board? He certainly thinks it is a waste of time, since NS only turns out 'whiners'. He would rather give jobs to foreign talents and women.

NS is only the nice part ,
Reservist is when it really wastes your civilian time , to accomodate for their inefficiency and lousy unfair systems.
The public sector do not appreciate hiring NSMen for their absence from work during reservist. So, NS really will be eating our time and opportunities. -

Ns takes away 2.5 yrs of ur prime career building age of 20+ yrold.
We all know what happens when one hits 30.
There will be much less opportunity for any career switch.

My "Foreign" colleagues get almost 7-10 yrs of
experiences when they hit 30.
While i only have 4-5 yrs at 30 and earning less than them
at the same age comparatively and relatively. -
plus if you know how mindef spend our Tax money....

As only a clerk in SPF, does he understand how people from other arms live thru NS? Dont you find it a joke, to hear things like once you are a driver, one foot is already in DB. We know the tendency for the bureaucracy to dump drivers into DB for minute fault. Its a pity, people like the drivers come forward to serves NS, only to be given the opportunity to taste DB.
Thats why i said, people just use one perspective to view NS. There are a lot of things besides glamourously seriving NS. People want to serve NS so that they can defend their nation, not blindly obeying orders and being as tools for regulars to climb their way up the career ladder, or become experimental lab rats in some brainless officers scheme in doing things.
If NSmen are whining, isnt he whining abt NSmen too? -

fyi POLY attachment student attached to SAF get even more pay than a CPL
if the country is poor n cant afford gd allowances no one will make noise, but now look at the reserves, they will spend on anything n scrimp on NSF allowance, even cleaner or bangla earn more than NSF
i m not a money minded person, but if i need to contribute my country, i feel i shld not be suffering because of a meagre few hundred dollars
and guess WHOS the one cleaning up Padang now ?

threadstarter: go volunteer to do NS for the rest of ur life and draw few hundred dollars lor, and i dun think they mind extra help at the padang now -
I definetly think NS is a waste of time, but still i believe that if one day we were attacked that everyone will come together and defend the country. Not because of some patriotic bullsh*t but because our families are here.

NS is a waste of time. Why?
1. Pay sucks.
2. Don't get occupationally "smarter" but "stupidier" (cos brain left to idle)
2. Learn skills that don't land you a job after NS
3. No bright but bleak future with NS Cert.
4. Girls give NSmen qualification the thumbs down.

The biggest reason why NS sucks of them all is
It spoils poeple's relationships. Girls leave the bf because of NS and contribute to declining birth rate

My brother, who served as a clerk, used to muse about how they run they camp. Largely because SAF clerks are the red tapes of the army; nothing gets done without clearing them first.
Sadly, my brother left NS without any real memories of NS either. But to be fair, he did pick up 2 foreign languages + some weird certifications such as a real estate agent cert and insurance agent cert.
IMO, Philip Yeo probably knows what goes on in the army. It's just that he was pretty cross with the scholar. There's no real right or wrong with what he said, but I just think that NS is very sensitive subject to most of us. -

Most of my camp mates used to use 'guard duty' as an excuse to 2time their gfs.
I kindda noticed that those who inadverdently got dumped by their gfs/having relationship problems were the weaker ones anyway. And uh, no flames please but they were *all* jc batch NSmen.
In my unit at least, it seems that more guys leave their gfs to have fun. But like i said in a seperate thread, everybody will have a different experience in NS. -

Guy just want to have some fun but in the end they will love only one girl. Most of them are like this anyway.. That is the male mentality of the species. But girls are different matter. ......u let them slip they are gone forever. -
One of my friend's had his career chances ruined because of ICT. It forever spoils your life in your youth and one u are done with it after 13 years, u are too old already.

Imagine u are jobless now and u go for your ICT (like some of my umemployed campmate) .. imagine getting paid $150 for 2 weeks of hard labour ... is this justifiable??? SO this is how we reward our NSmen huh? -
