Since when has modern Singapore not been a laughing stock for the rest of the civilised world? But using the riot squad on 4 silent protestors is indeed overkill and at best, a wayang show.

If he can mobilise 10,000 and above Singaporeans for demonstrations, the gov will be really scared cos they can't arrest all 10,000 people. These few months will be the best months for him to mobilise people since people are still fresh with the NKF saga and the gov one-sided comments on Kwan. My perception is CSJ think he is smart, with the many moves in this episode eg less than 4 “protesters”, silent “protest”, getting the attention of all the local and foreign journalists into the picture.
I think the adverse effect of the internationalizing of this issue will get the general public piss off.
I do not think it is a good taste to invite people outside of Singapore to tell us what to do, to tell our government how to govern, to tell us how we should put our case across to the government by “protest” eg like in England now at the Heathrow Airport.
The suffering brought about at the Heathrow Airport to the travelers there with a nation of such size create only a small ripple in the economy. If similar suffering is transplanted to Singapore Airport, the impact is that much bigger consider Singapore is just a red dot.
So Singapore has to do thing differently (to suit it size, environment, population make up, etc etc). In so doing, certain perception is formed by us of the governing bodies as being not conforming to the norm of the democratic society. Whether this non conforming is good or bad, we have to judge ourselves. Whether the government is doing good or bad, we have to judge ourselves.
If we want changes, then we must think through all aspect of the proposed changes and put forth our idea clearly and persistently. (You must be right in the first place or will be shoot down in double quick time).
I salute the one who had been going around the high rise housing estates and highlighting the danger of falling objects, items over the past 4 years or more to everybody, every organizations that he can think off. Eventually, the authorities start to take appropriate action “now”. There should be a lot of behind the scene actions not mentioned which we may or may not appreciate. The effort by this one man is deeply appreciated by many I believe. This man's contribution to the society is better than CSJ. -
What a disgrace. It is no wonder that Singapore, despite all its achievements and successes, still remains the laughing stock of the civilised world.

I really think that this is terrible.
I know that it is repressed in Singapore however I didn't think there was this much overkill.
Compared to the industrial relations protest march recently in Melbourne where they shut down the entire city grid. OMG! WTF!!
I'm just very disappointed that the government feels the need to repress Singaporeans.

We are both.Laughing stock and source of news for the weird pages of newspapers, and at the same time, a nation that others look up too for efficiency and progress.
We need to find the middle ground. -
To add, most of the time, the achievements and successes are attributed to one and only one.
We all know “no man is an island”. We must bear in mind the comrades that rally around and behind the man, the people, the coolies, the red hat ladies, the Ah Ma, the Ah Mat and etc. Many had fallen, stepped on, were sacrificed, forgotten.
Do remember, when we talk about achievements and successes by the one and only one, we should also talk about the rests that stand around him and behind him in the same breath. Credit must be given at the same breath. -

Look at what they did, one dozen riot police. They couldn't use the law on permits, since it's fewer than 5 persons, so it's a 'public nuisance' instead. Such a lame excuse. Would u really send one dozen riot police for a public nuisance case? If I call and report 4 people playing soccer, making loud noise, will u send one dozen riot police? Har? Har? HAR? Answer lehhhh....!
