My views of the SAF (and yes I'm currently serving NS)...
There definitely are pple who do not like the duty of serving the country by being part of its defence force. However that's a minority. Through it all there are quite a number of people who do want to do this duty. HOWEVER...
It's the way SAF is run, and the attitudes of many of its people there that grates people, including me. We're all serving the country together, can at least be better to us NSFs? Nooo....they destroy our morale by sending us on useless and undeserved extras, confinements, DB etc...anyhow give punishment, e.g. forgetting to turn on the officer's computer (this really did happen in my camp). There are nice people who don't backstab, lord over you like you're a slave etc, not everyone in the SAF is some monster; however, those who are usually are those who have a larger influence. How to fight in a war when in peacetime there's no spirit, there's so much dissension?
Salary-wise, I myself would like more, as would almost every NSF, but it is after all, still a duty. If only the workload we are thrown is lessened, then it would seem more bearable. However, NS is a good time for NSFs to learn to save money, and I believe the low salary does help in some way.
I'm sure if NS wasn't compulsory, most guys wouldn't volunteer to serve. Who would want to suffer when there's more freedom outside? However, since we're in it, we try to make the best of it. It's the horrible atmosphere of the SAF that tries to kill us. -

I know SAMs can shoot down guided missles but I don't think any system can shoot down artillery shells right?
As for poisoning of the reserviors, I don't know precisely how but there is no fence around the reserviors, so physical barriers is not a problem.
Mightier countries like USA believes that terrorist attack on homeland is not possible, look what happened?
Any way, my stand is still the same, NS is basically a waste of time for Singaporean males and it serves only to protect the million dollars 999 years or freehold properties of the elites.
