When I was doing such retail jobs, to get your products listed in any supermarket, be it upmarket or low end... they will always tell you, lower your price or up your listing fees or you do this or do that... everyone of them is the same, no chain will tell you...increase your price please
But as i said the difference is that while all do that, but NTUC still chooses their suppliers, they still maintain a certain standard in their quality...whereas SS is, you take your things here, fresh or not fresh, I not interested, I will pay you this price, you wan or not....
THese are 2 different styles...

Seafood that is, food fishes like Sea Bass, Snakehead, tilapia etc, are from SINGAPORE farms. these are freshwater breeds, and its price is cheap. a big SeaBass can go for less than $4 at supermarket shelves. and they taste bad.
Source: mainly from Khai Seng farm, in New Tiew Rd (LCK)
Purchaser: NTUC, SNS, CS, Giant etc and eventually, consumers
on the other hand, SS i believed its seafood comes from malaysia, as usual..
in wet markets, the fishes and prawns sold are mainly caught from the ocean, unless imported frozen, like the Salmon. Tiger Prawns are reared, not caught.
in chinese "zhi char" restaurants, the fishes are reared in deep net saltwater kelongs, such as in Kukup (johor) such as snapper, soon hock.. -

They selectivte bring in goods, then supplier of course dun wanna give them cheaper rate as they dun bring in all...
So they demand cheaper rate, if not, I dun bring in...

I last time live in AMK BLK 124, we shop at Sheng Shiong at 122, v cheap... That's almost 100 yrs back where SS have only 2 branch - AMK & Bedok...
Look at now... They have lotsa branch...
I used to live at AMK Blk 129 last time. I never could imagine them doing so big business like nowadays. That AMK store was so small and narrow aisle to pay money and very crowded. 20 years ago and look at them now.... going to take on NTUC, Cold Storage, Shop n Save, Giants etc etc...... -

She say not worth it because of the bus fare
but I told her my one is somehow free
so she let me go and buy
I went to the Giant at the Marina Square one
when reach there, I rushed to the fruits section
went to find a good watermelon by patting it
keep on finding here and there(took me around 15 min to choose:lol
After choosing, also bought other groceries which are cheap
then pay already happy happy go home
The watermelon I chose was very sweet and nice to eat -
