I asked you, WHY?Originally posted by Farmer Brown:BTW i think a meritocracy works fine thank you. It isn't up to our government u selfish prick, it's up to all of us to do our part to help the less fortunate.
it's called ''hidden meanings'' for a reason.Originally posted by mistyblue:some just don't read between the lines...
That's why I put disclaimer but Mr Fugue told me its unnecessary...
... and get flamed for no reason? Like the clowns that thought I was racist and flamed me with the "close and ban"?Originally posted by Mr Fugue:it's called ''hidden meanings'' for a reason.
if you put disclaimer (for the sake of those idiots), it's no longer hidden.![]()

Why do I even need to explain humanity? This is a sad sad day.Originally posted by Mr Fugue:I asked you, WHY?
All this while, you only mentioned it's our responsibility but have not supported your reasonings.
So, justify and give reasons why ''it's up to us'' and why it's OUR responsibility.
those ''who have a little more luck'' have other things to bother/grieve about.Originally posted by Farmer Brown:Whether by circumstance or by fate, these people were dealt a bad hand and people like you and me, who have a little more luck, have this responsibility to do so.
all I can say is.........people are not born equal, in terms of intelligence, wealth, status and among other things.Originally posted by SilverPal:... and get flamed for no reason? Like the clowns that thought I was racist and flamed me with the "close and ban"?
Perhaps the biggest problems in our local education is not the lack of knowledge... its the poor grasp of the english language... They should put more emphasis on comprehension...
so much for you gain for whatever effort you put in........Originally posted by SilverPal:What's this meritocracy thing I keep hearing about? Does it bite?
Other than compassionate, we are also very humble people, gracefully accepting the labelled as "beings of lesser standing than monkeys" by our admirable leader. Only a mere 1% of the population - 40 plus thousands out of 4 million people rejected this labelling! Where on Earth can you find such humble people??!?Originally posted by gerrykoh:Don't think Singaporeans are gullible, we are just compassionate- that's why so many of us donate to NKF, Cancer Fund, etc.
If we can spare a few dollars to help pple even those in other countries, why not? It is good to do more good deeds.
Perhaps you have forgotten your own humble acts?Originally posted by Mr Fugue:it's not humble, most people just couldn't be bothered!!![]()
oh pray tell. what exactly has this got to do with how gullible singaporeans are?Originally posted by caramon.:Dear Farmer Brown,
How true.. Whenever I went to the states, I was shock to see so many old folks strolling in the park. Don't they need to work? Or rather, are they consider useless and not wanted by their society?
In singapore, elderly have many job opportunities :
1. As a cleaner in kopitiam or food court.
2. Self employment as a taxi driver.
3. As a dish washer.
We should be thankful that in Singapore even old folks can find jobs.
In America, old folks are jobless and sitting around doing nothing. It is obvious the American government is unable to solve the structural unemployment problem and are unable to redesign jobs for older workers. These old folks in America must be suffering without an income and spending so much time in the park when they should be working.
oh wow. now you're sounding like master yoda. I give up reasoning with you. You're obviously one of the unfortunate ones who were destined to have the mental capacity of an ant.Originally posted by Mr Fugue:By destiny, when there is light, there will be darkness.
When there are people who thinks it's worthy to do something, there'll be people who thinks otherwise.
Nothing will cease to exist. All things exist for their own reasons.those ''who have a little more luck'' have other things to bother/grieve about.
it's also not destined that those of better fortune are solely to help. they exist becos they have other roles to play. that said, there're also people who are destined to help.
yours is the SMALL picture, mine is the BIG picture.Originally posted by Farmer Brown:oh wow. now you're sounding like master yoda. I give up reasoning with you. You're obviously one of the unfortunate ones who were destined to have the mental capacity of an ant.

Have you not served NS for a 1% peanuts pay?
Not only are you humble, you are also gracious!
You spent 2 years of serving NS despite knowing that fresh graduated males of foreign nationalities who do not need to serve NS, can easy get employment passes and compete with you for jobs. Better still, you also know that they pay a similar amount of tax as you, is younger than you by 2 years and get the same starting pay as you! You humbly and graciously did not ask for more pay despite having 2 years of NS experience!
Only the most humble males of this Earth will be so noble to accept such treatments.
Mr. Fugue and other singapore males, I salute you!
lol.. you just proved my point.Originally posted by Mr Fugue:yours is the SMALL picture, mine is the BIG picture.
I've nothing to do with yoga, I'm an astrologer.![]()
To put in simpler terms, those with better fortunes are NOT to be envied either, they have other kinds of troubles and misfortune. at least those less fortunate ones have people who GENUINELY care for them. who will suck up to them??
confirm farmer is one of those GULLIBLE singaporeans.Originally posted by Farmer Brown:lol.. you just proved my point.
