SilverPal already say it is very technical liao mah. All you need to know is operating system like to work with memory, even if it is on disk it will transfer the contents from disk to memory so it can work faster
Analogy.. memory is my desktop. Hard disk is my cupboard. When I want to read a file, I will take the file out from the cupboard and then put on top of the desktop and work on it rite?
Of cuz more finer details like cache memory is like my desktop is very big but cache is the small area just right under my hands while the remaining area of desktop is further away from my hands. So I will take the file from the outside desktop and transfer to the small area under my hands. Anytime I want more information I will look at the whole desktop if cannot find then look in the cupboard. So if desktop very big can put more stuff. Likewise for cupboard.
You may argue then why not make desktop as big as cupboard rite? Well cost and technical feasibility is an issue. Desktop more expensive and hard to make compared to cupboard.
Get it?
Some ppl I know like to run many programs in the taskbar, thinking that the many apps makes for more "powerful" computing. Sadly, every program you run in the background, taskbar, windows that you open all require memory. The cache and ram are finite and for your computer to time slice all the programs might require the processor to constantly swap memory blocks in and out of the main memory.Originally posted by shinta:argh!!!

i clear my temp files often too..Originally posted by SilverPal:Some ppl I know like to run many programs in the taskbar, thinking that the many apps makes for more "powerful" computing. At home, I'm using a dinosaur, so i'm forced to minimize on the programs i use. I rely on windows media player despite the popularity of winamp. I uninstall my compilers once i finish the related programming subject for the semester to free up more memory.
I clear out my temp files regularly too. The things i do since i have no money to get a new system.

Wow! Very good explanation!!!
I like to use layman terms to explain cuz me not PhD material that spout bombastic and highly technical terms to scare off ppl or show my superior knowledge. My analogy always try to convey my ideas best. A pity I dun see that in my Uni lecturers hahahahha... maybe they study too much until brain sock liao
Spybot 1.3 was problematic. Most of the problems got fixed on the 1.4Originally posted by FireIce:i stick to spybot

i got a lot of stuff in my hdd.. tat's work related & cannot be deleted..Originally posted by ITS:Its hardly going to ease the slow down of your pc.
Ironically, the MS Anti spyware that you condemned so quickly offers a tool that can help you monitor whats running on your pc at startup and in the background. From there you can identify and remove the redundant ones.
Of course, watch what you delete. Only delete when you are absolutely sure its not going to hurt your pc.![]()

I have already graduated close to 7 years now working and attempting to raise a family soon
Nowadays besides work, family I dream a lot about aliens and how they try to contact me hahahaa.....
I usually read from the task manager... The poor man's solution...Originally posted by ITS:Its hardly going to ease the slow down of your pc.

the analogy is flawed...
Feel free to correct me. I am not a computer scientist that dwell on the correct terminology or academic definition. Me just a software enginner that program for a living. I try to present as layman as possible for non technical user. Sometimes having too much details just make it more confusing.
AFAIK my analogy most ppl will understand though it stand to be corrected on further scrutinisation
how to read ar?Originally posted by SilverPal:I usually read from the task manager... The poor man's solution...
Well, I usually do a google on some unfamiliar program i see... If i dun like what i hear, I find out how to remove it. For this, google is my best friend.Originally posted by shinta:how to read ar?
