i dont see any reason why the mother couldnt have asked any one of the students kindly for a seat. i'm sure the person would give up their seat for her and the baby. if you want something, get it. now, the article has blown out of proportions. fingers are pointing at each other and all. my dad gave up his seat to a pregnant lady on the train the other day. he rarely takes the train anyway.
so to those who are pregnant and need a seat, if no one offers you any, just ask nicely for a person to give up his/her seat saying that you're tired or something. i'm sure he/she wouldnt mind. -

Actually I could sympathize with the author's attempt to reason on the case. Students have always been the target of public voluntary aids.
Anyway some of his arguments actually make some sense but I am unable to tolerate the way that he deviates from the matter by comparing the topic to a scenario where he would have a constipation which is silly.
I do notice the constant assaults hailed towards students for not being "civic-minded" or "ethical". Being moral and ethical is a responsibility of ALL human beings from young to old mind you. Likewise, it is a responsibility of EVERYONE else aboard that bus to give up their seats to a pregnant woman; not just students for that matter.
There is no written law or whatsoever that says students have to give up their seats to the needies. Instead, such a circumstance is shared among all passengers of the public transport.
If a student refuses to give up his or her seat. That very person should not be discriminately attacked based on his/her occupation as a student. All other passengers in the vicinity should bear the responsibility instead. -

Secondly, even if there are ADULTS seating amongst the youth in the crowd, adults that can range from 30-50 years old.How come when they do not give their seats, the youth always get bashed verbally first?There are definately adults sitting amongst the students, so what?Students have social obligations which adults receive immunity from? -
Giving up your seat to someone who need it more, is very much your own choice. Meaning, if I give up my seat to someone whom I deem in need of it more than I, I wouldn't gripe about why others around me do not give a damn.
Because I know this world is made up of all kinds of people (idiots included).
Giving up a seat does not require any kind of assessment as to who has more rights, less rights, or are supposed to. This act of giving others your seat is very much culture based, and tells on the way your parents brought you up. Our culture here is the "Me First, and Mine Only" culture, which we are desperately trying to make amends to.
For this "Me First, and Mine Only" mentality to change, it is going to take quite some time judging by the way things are generally going. Motorists still cut into lanes and road-hog, people still take every opportunity to cut que, and handphones are still ringing and being answered in cinemas.
Mind you all, it isn't just giving up seats in MRT trains that's a problem. It's the mindset of our people in general!
So, go ahead and make that difference in your daily life; give up that seat, let someone go first when driving, respect other people's right of way, don't hog the road, cut or switch lanes considerately, and TURN OFF YOUR DAMN HANDPHONE/S when you enter a cinema! -

the pregnant woman also paid 63 cents, also board the bus.. but i luckier and got a seat..
means, maybe ppl who stand should have discount?
and YEAH JC/ITE/ Secondary school students should stand/ give up seats because they are paying cheaper fares of 45cents and we adults are subsidising for them heavily -
