one thing is SG's train are well-maintained. 18 yrs on and they're still as good as new. i think it has to do with the seating arrangement. if our MRT train's seating arrangement was like in our buses, the two-by-two arrangement, littering and vandalising would be rampant.
i think the MRT train can last another 10yrs? or even more.
would anyone like our buses to have seating arrangements like the train? -
Noo.. Bcos the bus breaks much more then the train.. I can imagine myself going leffftttt riiiggghhhttt, leeffffttt rrrriiiggghhhttt.....

Trains can move in either of both directions but buses move in a single direction (unless reversing), so it's preferable to retain the current seating arrangement in buses. -
Next time when u happen to travel on the MRT specially SMRT ones, sit rite behind the driver's cockpit. But not everytime lah. Maybe once out of a hundred times. I ever came across this. Twice. And when it happens, mostly the driver will open his cockpit door for the wind to blow in so tat the cigarette smoke can escape. . coz' some trains gg towards various directions stop at the same platform using the same tracks. den at some point, they have to switch the direction. multi-switching is the technology involved ah. very complicated. just that the trains look pretty bad. -
My goodness, finally this thread can finally be put to better use for discussion on what i saw today at Bugis startion....man...there so many people around and when people were trying to get on the driver closed the door and many communters were knocked by those shutters......

We should have SMRT staff at the platforms whose job is to push people into trains so that they dun kena hit by the doors. Like those on the Japanese shinkansen.

i think the train drivers can only afford to sleep at all stations except..
town stations.

Yeah..took the MRT again today...this time the NEL....pretty cool...but one think that took me aback....suddenly the train got some sort of electrical blue light or some sort after there was a loud "clang" hey not that i'm complaining about the transport syatem in S'pore...it's the best(well not that maybe) but just to share with you ppl my experiences on the MRT...cheers

1) The train drivers don't actually "drive" the train. Where would they need to drive the train to? They are there to close and open the doors, to make announcements and to look out for terrorist and molesters. Which is why they are so relax.
2) The train doors can't hurt you. They are made so that if there is a slight force jamming them they wouldn't shut. And the train will be unable to move if the doors can't shut (that's the reason given for banning bubble gum ). -
