Take the case of Nguyen Tuong Van, everyone in Australia is so worked up because Singapore is about to hang him. This Austrailian Vietnamese was forced by the triads to smuggle drugs to help his twin brother who is in debt.
If he is a Singaporean nobody would have cared, time is just too precious to fight for a criminal, Singaporeans has many other more important things to do like shopping, tours and karaoke.
Something is really wrong with Australians, why bother with Singapore hanging one of their citizens, they have 20 million people more than us. They should understand Singapore is helping them to get rid of one of their criminals - they should thank us, for their nation is now safer.
Nguyen Tuong Van will obviously endangered the lives of people by his crime, why else would a "rational country" like Singapore want to hang him? These Australians and human rights group are acting so emotionally and irrationally over this.
We singaporeans are really lucky that we have such a unique and wonderful system in place. However, not many ang moh countries appreciate the beauty behind our beloved PAP Logic.

First and foremost do you believe in capital punishment for crimes tat are defined to have the death penalty and in this case it is trafficking of drugs?
Spore is well known ard the world for having the most harshest punishment for drug trafficking but why do those ppl still try their luck? Reason is simple. If they can pass thru the check in spore and arrive in other countries those customes there will check lesser cuz afterall spore will have done a very thorough check for them.
Security in spore is IMO one of the best which other countries has yet to offer only for except some selected cities -

Do you think its fair for those who have done less and similar and gone through the gallows? Is it a message that will go out to the world that you can do all wrong and get away by pleading your case to the queen?

As for security, singapore may be secure but what does it churn out? people who wouldn't survive a night out in the streets of London. Do u think its a good idea to produce people for whom security is so taken for granted that they become stupid? Best so what? Cocoon people and they turn into unthinking zombies. -

As a Independent State, Singapore has the right to deal with criminals who commited crimes in her territories. Another country should not intervent with this case as they DO NOT understand the consequences of doing so. As illustrated by former replies, if we let one foreign criminal go scot-free after breaking the law here, then others will do the same until we become a Paradise for foreigners to commit crime here.
The reply of the Singapore Government is clear that all criminals who commit crime in Singapore will be dealt with by her OWN LAWS. A previous example is the US boy who vandalised the CJ's car, even after appeal he still "tio rotan". So even a superpower like USA back that fella he still "tio rotan", *insert country here*'s government can do wat?
lets end this with this anecdote, if a Singaporean killed *insert country here*'s PM and Singapore's government (i know this wont happen, but i'm illustrating the response of *insert country here*in this case) will beg the government to let him go. (And if the appeal succede) he is sent back to Singapore but he was not charged in Singapore's law. WILL *insert country here* BE HAPPY ABOUT IT? -

Besides, if u consider 2 cases, one where a robber breaks into the home of an elderly lady to rob it, is discovered by her and beats her to death. The other case, where a wife is constantly abused physically and mentally by her lousy cheating drunkard of a husband, until one day she snaps n kills him in a rage. Are u going to say both the robber and the wife are the same criminal and excecute them both? Thats why I say all cases have to be gone thru case by case. Its pure laziness on the part of lawmakers to have a mandatory death sentence.

The thing is Singaporeans have grown lazy. They just don't want to consider all these factors anymore. Someone smuggle drugs surely = working purely out of greed = evil so must hang. Trust me, what causes our own country to fall and crumble won't be people like him, but the ungraciousness and unwillingness to think of the people of singapore society. Singapore is already crumbling and falling more than u think right in front of your very eyes.
Anyways no one has answered me yet. If it were u, and u were forced into doing something illegal thu threats against u or your family, would u think u deserved to die?
