This Christianity-related topic is getting popular due to the aggressive evangelism and it has been a sensitive issue especially in middle-east. Isreal and another country (I forgot) is fighting so much for the Gaza Strip (the 2 countries is seperated by this Gaza strip and its a important place in the Bible).
Well, I'll join whatever, as long as it teach good moral and it'll improve my luck in all aspect.![]()
so christian shd understand wat other religion is abt before they open their mouth to criticise ?Originally posted by The return:Beep,
Let me refute the simplest point. Where did you get the idea of apple from? You read too much Dan Brown book is it? It just shows that you do not understand the scripture. I do not want to waste my time refuting your points. Afterall, you get your ammo from anti-christianity werbsites and talks. I went to those sites before and I can refute some of the points and then I don't even bother to see the rest. Wasting my time man. You should just spend your time understanding what the scripture is all about and what is really happening in Christianity before you criticise.

Oo, great Jesus. Please do allow me to refresh your memory on the great and eternal words you preached.
1)The Bible Advocating Pillage, Rape and Murder.
Deuteronomy 20:10-14
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.
2)The Bible Advocating the horror to enslave other races of people (Perhaps the strongest motivation amongst the New World Explorers, who went on to exploit the Indians, and then the Africans.)
Exodus 21:2-6 NLT
If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever.
Dearest Jesus, its our time to get back and reign this world.
Truly, Judas.

Non-believers are always the first to not excuse God for having any wrath. They tend to believe that if God is of love, then it isn't possible for God to destroy. It's actually an insecurity issue with the non-believer to believe that God severely punishes sin in the world.Originally posted by Beep:Wow, 'The Return' you must be Jesus?

Firstly, if u feel offended by what someone has said, christian or not, please exercise ur own right to walk away, or to inform that person that what he or she said is insensitive and u feel offended.
That is your right to exercises. But it is not your right nor anyone else's to come online to criticise another religion's beliefs or teaching.
I will refer any matters to the police if necessary. That is my right. However, i believe all of us are intellectual people, hence, we need not have to resort to such means.
1) "Fight to overthrow oppression" is not the same as supporting the wiping out of all humanity of the city one is attacking.Originally posted by eternal hope:Those OT messages were given to specific people for a specific time and circumstance. Now take a look:
Q: In Dt 20:1-15, why did God permit offensive war?
A: This does not specify Canaanites or non-Canaanites. The Israelites needed to fight to overthrow the oppression of the Midianites, Ammonites, Syrians and others. This demonstrates that God was not a pacifist in the Old Testament, and likewise, He is not against all killing, such as executions for valid reasons, in the New Testament in Romans 13:4.
"Slavery in the U.S. south?" How about like the slavery of African tribes to other tribes, or of Spanish to South American natives?
Q: Why do Ex 21:2-21 and Ex 32:1-6 condone slavery?
A: Most of the slavery in the Bible was not like slavery in the U.S. south, but similar to indentured servants. All Hebrew slaves were to be freed every seven years in Exodus 21:2-5. When the slave we freed, the ex-master was to furnish him or her liberally out of what the master had, according to Deuteronomy 15:13-15. The only exception to freeing a Hebrew slave was if the slave loved the master enough to choose to be a slave for life in Exodus 21:5-6. However, the Hebrews did not always free their slaves, as Jeremiah 34:8-22 shows; God rebuked them for that. The following became slaves:
Thieves who could not pay people back (Exodus 22:3)
Women sold by parents as concubines (Exodus 21:7-11)
People sold themselves as slaves if they were starving

sheesh, your last point is made as if christians can say what they want, and non believers are to shut up or end up in jailOriginally posted by Shotgun:Unfortunately, I am not proffessor Xavier, armed with a cerebro that can broadcast my thoughts into the minds of every christians.

Your point is full of flaws, i can use the same point against you.Originally posted by askxyz:Non-believers are always the first to not excuse God for having any wrath. I don't see Deuteronomy 20:10-14 as The Bible Advocating Pillage, Rape and Murder.
It's a perspective issue that changes between those who accept God's dominion over them, and those who don't. I see this passage as a methodical, strategic course of action to give an enemy of God the opportunity to give up it's evil ways first; and then saving all those who do, from themselves, by subjecting them to the ordinances and cultures of a tribe of people, whom are clear on God's demands for mankind, for a determined amount of years. The determined amount of years certainly indicates that the state of slavery here is like a forced "reform school" for the good of the person, rather than a permanent bondage to completely and unfairly defile the free will of the person for ever. Remember, man is not writing this Bible......God is....and his ways are not our ways. God sees things through a perspective based on long view; whereas, we see in a perspective based on short view. Also, important to note, is that slavery in ancient times was NOTHING like the slavery we think of today. It was often a second chance for life. For what would normally invoke a death sentence in ancient times was mercifully reduced by God in the passages you're speaking of. Non-believers are very one-sided, in that they cannot articulate the verse to mean anything else but "horror". It's because they see man writing the Bible himself and making it up as he goes along, instead of God mercifully thinking and planning behind the scenes within the Bible, while having to use rebellious, "horrible" man to do so. The Bible is brutally honest and it doesn't do a rush job on the edification of man's nature. It just provides the path, and if you look far enough, towards the long view of God, you can always find the ulterior motives of his guidance.
No. I think the non believers have enough of these crap from some extreme evangelising christiansOriginally posted by askxyz:Please monitor this thread, okay? If it necessary, please gives some warnings. These thread seems to be going out of control.

yeah, go read what happened in eternal hopeOriginally posted by Shotgun:Hmmm I do not believe Christians should criticise other religions. It is just not the right thing to do. Every church should teach their members to be sensitive when evangelizing, in order not to cause negative feelings to members of the public.
However, I feel that what some of the sgforumnites have done here are also wrong. To criticise Christianity as a religion because of a few ppl's lack of restraint. Few have even criticised the religion's beliefs, which I feel is also demonstrating insensitivity to another religion.
Let me remind you, such statements and comments too fall into the broad coverage of the Sedition Act. So please exercise restraint in your comments.
