Go then be prepared for this kind of cases. Police can't be everywhere at the crowd. To save all the trouble of going to make police report, angry that you got molested, mentally being hurt. Stay home. By going there, you are already show that you accepted having the risk of being molest in any kind of ways.
Just like girls who like to wear short skirt or over exposed clothes and dont like the feeling of guys constantly looking at them. You yourself in the first place do something that attracts people's attention first, now you got it, why complain?

Example: You show off to everyone you won 10K and just collected money. Are you tempting those people who just lose their job and wondering how to feed his/her family of 5 and how to pay the fee of car,school,flat etc. Arent you increasing the chances of you getting rob? Blame the police for not be able to prevent you to get rob?

There is indeed not much the police can do as the crowds swell to such volumes that you will physically brush pass innocent strangers as you attempt your squeeze though New Year's day.
I was at the wisma atria section of the crowd and personally witnessed people spraying each other with aerosol cans; some did become upset over aggressive spraying and later fought in public. My friends and i deliberately avoided the crowds and went walking the back route behind taka and wisma.
Banning aerosol cans will not solve opportunists from molesting girls. Vigilance is the only way to minimise these molesters. Police cannot be everywhere all the time and their numbers are alwasy stretched thin during public events like these.
Wearing fully clothed attire also minimises the risk of being targeted by such perverts. -

But if they were to wear such things, i would rather not allow them to go than to complain about the molest when they come back. Prevention is always better than cure. So why bring attention to yourself in the first place?

To repeat, IT'S NOT ALWAYS THAT THE GIRL IS WEARING SKIMPY!! It's about easy oppurtunity than anything else, like guys who take advantage of drunk girls.
It's good that a news report finally came out about this, hopefully the police or somebody can do something about it. And maybe the general public like YOU GUYS can be more aware about it and look after your sisters/girlfriends/schoolmates/colleagues/friends.
On a more informal note, local girls are meant to be molested by our local guys only. Just kidding. -
