interesting.
i work in animation, video, tv and that kind of thing, here in the uk.
i'd be interested to know where you guys go for work etc after your education, and if you guys can specify a bit more of what your courses involve.
a company or two i know of may well be investing in sg as the market for animation / dv work there was previously unheard of, and forgive me, sg was always regarded as a creative black spot [ie. dead, to be disregarded, ignored] when compared to korea, hk, japan, etc. but information like this is encouraging and might end up being a pull for work as people start to hear of talent in sg.
so please, some more information would be useful.
for example i work with guys who can animate, draw, edit - pretty much know all aspects of post, as well as production, be it traditional, 2d, 3d, traditional 3d, etc.
do you guys get to know the basics of animation?
basics of both traditional and computer generated 3d?
traditional and computer generated 2d?
basic composition, drawing skills, basic editing, sound break downs, dope sheets, etc?
do you guys get to experience fire? flame? combustion? *edit? avid? fcp? after effects? lightwave, maya, max, softimage, houdini? anything like these? any of the old black boxes or even the new ones?
i throw them a problem they can deal with it.
are you taught to be technical directors? character animators? environment or secondary animators?
ability to put computers together is pretty useless as anyone and everyone knows that, and its a piece of piss.
can i get to view your guys work - showreels? do you get advice on that kind of stuff?
when do you guys have your shows? i'll pop over and have a look, or maybe my associates will.
does anyone know of any studios in sg that deal with post production/production work, whether or not it deals with animation in sg?
i had a meeting with such a studio a few years back when i was scouting in sg, and they said there was nothing in sg and they were sourcing talent out from india and places like that. certainly nothing of any use was local.
this could be the start of an interesting era for sg, if you guys - perhaps the first creative generation - have the right skills in the right areas.
