Its not important on how much Tax is spent!!! non of the poor people know how to earn enough income to stay and live in their 99 years apartments.
Let alone one day they will have to incur heavy medical expenses for their aged parents.
They won't ever have enough $$$ unless their parents die before getting sick and leave behind the HDB. -

Thread starter's statements are too generalising.... just because you see some poor kids getting handphones and some useless people going geylang, that doesn't represent the whole low income population's doing that. Some take up so many odd jobs just to feed their family that they don't even have enough time to sleep, not to mention visiting prostitutes.....not everyone can be high flyers and rich... this world's not fair.. would you rather be born with a silverspoon stucked in your ass(that only applies to ppl like the threadstarter) or in a family who can hardly cope with their daily expenses? I rather help people than having people to help me and i'm feeling grateful for that.

From the governments stand point , its also good for the population and for the economy. Why you may ask ? Its because it is part of an automatic fiscal stabiliser that stabilises the economy. It allows the poor to be able to spend reasonbly so as to be able to survive. This reduces the drop in GDP due to lower expenditure.

its often the mid to higher income ppl dat are slack.. imo. for lower income ppl or ppl facing financial difficulties, we have to work harder and plan further than anyone else. not everyone likes to receive aid, and not everyone is what you say. don't be ignorant.
