we guys are already subjected to so many back stabbing, talked down to, arrowed at, pushed around and countless sai kang. please don't let our poor females be subjected to those as well.

I disagree with girls serving ns.
In times of war , only those trained will be called upon as duty to fight for thier land. N when that time comes , i make sure we wipe out all the males fighting in the war.. n thier sweet frail women intact .. ripe for the pickings. *slurp* Claiming the city of women for ourselves...

Well, we are losing local nurses to Western nations because of the better perks there. In turn, we have to recruit them from our less-developed neighbours. Instead of bringing in so many FTs to be nurses, why not conscript our female population as ER nurses instead? It isn't hard for SMM to start a course in ER medicine just for them. I think the idea that females should do national service because they aren't appreciative of what we guys put in is bullshit la. It sounds so damm childish and irks of self-pity. I say, serve your country, accept that it is your responsibility, to hell with what the rest thinks of our contributions, make the best out of it and live on.
If any reason why women should serve, it is because it frees up more men for combat duty. Furthermore, it may enable the authorities to consider shorter span of services for NSF and NSmen, if the proposal is taken up, NSwomen.
Anyway I see most guys posting here, it'll be great if more female forumites can post their opinions on this issue. -
Chinese already mentioned "Women hold up half the sky." Hence don't look down on women.

I think its a great idea but I don't think its possible for mandatory national service for girls. It'll be a little messed up and you know girls...sometimes they pout, sometimes they cry, whimper, scratch, sulk, act cute....tell me these chicks will be defending the nation. just my two cent's worth. No offence to anyone.

I see this debate boiling down to the topic of gender equality. I'm just being objective in this discussion, it doesn't mean I share this view, but I think a lot of the male forumites here are questioning with females embracing neo-feminism these days-wanting equal or on par rights and opportunities as men, why can't they share the same responsibilities as men?
To that, what is gender quality? Is gender equality a neccessity for females to fufill and replicate traditional male roles and vice-versa or is it males and females fulfilling their traditional roles, but at the same time being more accpeting to certain transgressions (I can't think of a more appropriate word). -
