Our economy is not based on Labour intensive industries but capital intensive and recent years, knowledge based economy. If comparing real cheap labour, Malaysia will lose out to China , Vietnam , Thailand, IndonesiaOriginally posted by Redblood:yes ... many did choose m'sia ... which is why many factories are closing in singapore ... cheap labor and cheap land is what big corps want, that will be the real meat ... regional office in singapore yes ok, small office with a few FTs ...
no offense intended but, we loose out as a fact on things we really loose out on
Companies relocating factories from Spore to Msia will mean 1 thing : Workers from across the causeway, will now earn RM5/hr instead of S$5/hr . Now those who really suffers are these group of hard working workers.Originally posted by Redblood:yes ... many did choose m'sia ... which is why many factories are closing in singapore ...

It was the Malaysian stand that it is their right to build the bridge on their side of the water (with or without Singapore consent).
For that matter many things had already started and some like the New Immigration Depot is already near completion. All because the more projects are carried out the better is the return to the 10% PM (former).
The present PM at least can now blame Singapore for scraping the project (to save some money for the country). This is “Malaysia bolleh”.

Don't make me laugh !
To deal with a small dot island like Singapore all they need is to
fire some missles & or drop some bombs & see where all the
people on the small land can run to !!!! Almost nowhere except maybe
jump into the sea & be drown !
yes, you're right of course, that Malaysia has the right to build a spanking nice CIQ on their side ..... but really, we are trying to save you money ... Singaporeans going to shop, fark, spend money, "contribute" to the inadequate paychecks of the local traffik polis (and get robbed, carjacked, etc ... of course), are quite used to the old, inefficient, jam prone one .... It's very nice of Malaysia to be so considerate of the legions of Singaporeans who contribute to the Johore economy daily, by building this spanking new complex so that we'll be more comfortable (would it be faster ? .... errrmmmm ) .... but really, there's no need to accomodate us that way, you're really too kind ....Originally posted by hseochin:Of course it's Malaysia's right to build a bridge with or without Singapore's 'approval' !!
The new CIQ is most likely to blend in with the future LRT terminal like KL Sentral style for the line from Taman University to Masai. Therefore with or without the Causeway bridge, the new CIQ complex with the flyovers to & from it would continue to stand & be put into use !
Any postponment (more likely instead) or permanent abandonment of the Causeway half-bridge or full-bridge project would tend to be Malaysia's 'accommodation' to Singapore more than anything else !!
I have to say Malaysia has always been 'on top of the situation' over Singapore on the bridge & some other issues as well. Overall Malaysia has more potential to 'dictate' to Singapore rather than the other way around ! Singapore is only like some small fut trying to make as much noise as possible to get their preferences met.
If it is Malaysia’s right to build the crooked bridge with or without Singapore ‘approval”, then please proceed and be a laughing stock for the next 100 years by the whole world.Originally posted by hseochin:Of course it's Malaysia's right to build a bridge with or without Singapore's 'approval' !!

[b]Citizens’ views influenced decision – “The government had decided not to proceed with the construction of the bridge in Johor to replace the Causeway.
The decision was made after taking into consideration the views and sentiments of the rakyat (citizens), particularly concerning the supply of sand and allowing Singapore to use Malaysia’s airspace. The government also decided to stop all negotiations related to the bridge.”
PRIME MINISTER ABDULLAH BADAWIÂ’S BRIEF STATEMENT
That was what had been said.
There are a lot that has not been said. One of the many that had not been said :
Building of the scenic crooked bridge had lined the pockets of the many politicians and those in charge. Stopping the construction will prevent further drain on the government coffer.
