If SMRT wants to maintain a litter free image as well as odour free trains for the benefit of MAJORITY commuters by imposing food bans, why does one have to disregard its intentions by bringing food onboard?Originally posted by R3SsH|n:yes...but similarly lets say person is suppose to take some food before medication...then whats wrong with eating bread or some burger on the train?
the fast pace of the society sometimes don't allow you to sit down and have your meal...as much as you would like it...
i think the real solution is to be gracious and be tolerant...
Yah yah, then they fine you $5k. Worse.Originally posted by anhydrouscoppersulphate:more like u kena fine for misusing the intercom
why must one need enforcement officers to warn them off before they will stop? its all about being civic-minded and considerate for goodness sake!Originally posted by dork3d:We have been debutting over here over the rights and wrongs of eating in the station and trains, but end of the day, it's still up to SMRT and SBST to enforce the "no eating and drinking" regulations.
It's just like they have security officers doing random checks to bags and patrolling the stations, but most of the times, station personnels and security officers closed one eye on these even they see it.![]()
what?u mean we shouldn't even put food in our bag?Originally posted by dork3d:It's just like they have security officers doing random checks to bags and patrolling the stations, but most of the times, station personnels and security officers closed one eye on these even they see it.![]()
We can be civic-minded and considerate, but how about those who we have advised not to do it and yet saying: "It's none of your business if I eat and drink here!"Originally posted by JLennon:why must one need enforcement officers to warn them off before they will stop? its all about being civic-minded and considerate for goodness sake!
Their main purpose to perform random checks on bags is to deter terrorism, but for us knowing it's wrong and yet doing the obvious is even more wrong.Originally posted by Gordonator:what?u mean we shouldn't even put food in our bag?![]()
the fact that these inconsiderate ppl cannot be educated does not mean that we should follow them and flaunt the rules. in fact by advising them, we can only hope to instill an awareness. honestly, i do love to kick them in the shins at times.Originally posted by dork3d:We can be civic-minded and considerate, but how about those who we have advised not to do it and yet saying: "It's none of your business if I eat and drink here!"
wah like this i cannot tabao my fav ice kacang and fried chicken from amk liaoOriginally posted by JLennon:If SMRT wants to maintain a litter free image as well as odour free trains for the benefit of MAJORITY commuters by imposing food bans, why does one have to disregard its intentions by bringing food onboard?
we leave in a fast pace society does not mean that we can choose to disregard certain regulations that do not fit our purpose. in your example of consuming food prior to medication, I'm sure you can afford five minutes to finish your food outside the station before boarding the train.
actually its just 'no eating or drinking'. i think tabao food (besides durian la...) should ok bah.....Originally posted by shinta:wah like this i cannot tabao my fav ice kacang and fried chicken from amk liaoand char kway teow
Seen too many...Originally posted by saline:hi,
just want to share what i saw this afternoon in the MRT.
i took the train from cck to jurong east. all was fine till i saw a couple who were in school uniform. i couldn't recognize what school they were from but from the way the guy looked (dressing and hairstyle), he look rather old. so i am guessing either upper sec or JC.
then to my horror, the guy took out a brown paper bag and started fishing and eating fries out and sharing with the girl!!
OMG! eating in the train? come on man. why would anyone want to do that? signs are everywhere and being school kids, they have no reason not to know that eating is not allowed in public transport.
it is not so much of the litter, but the smell of fries in an air-con train can get quite sick after a while.
personally i feel, drinking water from a water bottle is fine, as long u don't litter, but eating is a strict no no. not everybody likes what u are eating.
comments?
sigh~~
actually if i buy stuff like fried chicken.. i'd avoid the train.. dun wanna scorch ppl's legs... the way i did to mineOriginally posted by JLennon:actually its just 'no eating or drinking'. i think tabao food (besides durian la...) should ok bah.....![]()
scorched is for fire, and scalded is for water. not sure what the right term is for excessively hot fried chicken.Originally posted by shinta:actually if i buy stuff like fried chicken.. i'd avoid the train.. dun wanna scorch ppl's legs... the way i did to mine![]()

i take pride in being civic-minded. it reflects better on the society as well.Originally posted by Croaking_Toad:But the thing is are we ever civic-concious.
Are those signs warning of fines for eating and drinking on MRTs taken seriously and strictly enforced?
Has anybody been fined or subjected to CWO? Anybody know of deterent actions by SMRT just to let everybody know they are serious?
they never say cannot anyway.Originally posted by JLennon:actually its just 'no eating or drinking'. i think tabao food (besides durian la...) should ok bah.....![]()
Actually from my personal experiences, me told people off and getting the obnoxious remarks back as been busybody and kay-poh, and when me reported the matter to the station master, they said they couldn't do much to stop them. So enforcement is lacking in this way...Originally posted by JLennon:the fact that these inconsiderate ppl cannot be educated does not mean that we should follow them and flaunt the rules. in fact by advising them, we can only hope to instill an awareness. honestly, i do love to kick them in the shins at times.![]()
u mean to say putting food in bag is terrorism?Originally posted by dork3d:Their main purpose to perform random checks on bags is to deter terrorism, but for us knowing it's wrong and yet doing the obvious is even more wrong.![]()
It's act of terror of making others fuming and hungry in the trains..Originally posted by Gordonator:u mean to say putting food in bag is terrorism?![]()
frankly enforcement can seem like a very high-handed way of dealing with them. Embarassment can sometimes be the best solution. If there can be some kind of PA system that shouts 'Stop eating that burger you in the red shirt and blue pants'.Originally posted by dork3d:Actually from my personal experiences, me told people off and getting the obnoxious remarks back as been busybody and kay-poh, and when me reported the matter to the station master, they said they couldn't do much to stop them.
