The possibility of checking how you voted is there.
I don't think the government is going to bother to check how you voted. The char kuay teow seller or taxi driver need not fear. Anyway to check is quite cumbersom and in Singapore you cannot keep a secret, somebody sure to blab. One person cannot go to the boxes, rip off the seals and search for a particular serial number. Some one must open the vault. There must be a team to search. You must get the list, etc etc. It must be organised like a Mission Impossible operation. The people involved would be your friend, neigbhour, classmates, army buddy, family, it will definitely leak out. It is not worth it, the consequences would be catastrophic.
Some people will spew vitriol at the government and some one in particular, on the ballot slip. The serial number will expose the culprit, and he cannot deny that the ballot slip is his. This however will happen during the counting period. The counting personnel will notice the obscenities and bring it to the attention of all the officials present. There after that ballot paper will be police evidence.
The rest of the ballot will go to the vault in the Supreme Court, and it will require a Mission Impossible type operation to find out who voted which way. -

Anyone has considered bringing in a marker pen (instead of a usual pen). Then make your vote on the slip of paper, then turn it over and black out the serial number on the reverse side of the paper?
I'm going to try that. Anyway, I'm dumping the vote into the box immediately after that. At the most, they void my vote.

So what if I do vote for opposition? In a GRC averagely from the previous election... 30-40% would vote for opposition if the government really so free to track everyone I will migrate liao lor... Anyway if the governemnt wants he can easily change the constitution to a dictatorship without even ask just like hitler... so I don't see the need to fear for this serial number as a means to counter fake votes. But of coz the government can improve be using special voting paper that is like your currency. Well that would take alot of time and $$ to make..

I feel they are unconsciously too comfortable with the status quo, that's why there is less emphasis on that. -

Many of our young man does their NS. If you ask them why, their replies would be to defend our country, our people, our relatives, our friends and our kins. If we do not defend them, who does?
Similarly, if people who are eligible voter do not defend our democracy system by selecting the peoples representitive of our choice, who does?
