do you think Singapore has the type of climate to keep a husky. They have beautiful coats for a reason...to keep the cold out. How often is it cold in Singapore?

it was left without proper ventilation and died of dehydration.

I don't suggest keeping a Siberian Husky with our weather here unless you can provide it an Air-con room 24/7 and space for it to run around
My friend did but her husky still suffered from skin problems due to the weather and needs weekly treatments which is extremely costly.
Please think twice if you cannot provide for the husky. -

just a reminder: for Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute, you will have to bring it for regular grooming to strip down the coat to maker it cooler for the coat and to ensure that the coat does not get entangled. so this would mean more $$$ -

if u are a animal lover, you would not want to let the dog suffer like that, when u cannot afford to let the dog live in comfort.
we know that u are an animal lover. so please think twice before making such a commitment. remember all the costs, risks (ppl complain against u).
u know that keeping huskies in a non-air con enviroment in singapore can be consituted as animal abuse?

take a very simple fact lah. huskies are not and will never be allowed to be housed in HDB flats.
even if you get one and manage to giv him the best care in the world.
one day some1 complains to the authorities bout you havng such a large dog in the house. they come down and force you to give up the dog.
where can he go? -

If you truely love huskies, please do not keep them unless you have the space and the means to keep it well and happy. -

The term siberian attached to the name husky is there for a reason.
It only adapt best at cold countries... I would urge ppl who live even in big bungalows to forget about rearing husky.

olala, can consider terrier class of dogs. they're equally energetic and love to run about. it is also suitable for hdb.
u can look at fox terriers, mini schnauzers. active bunch. of course, this is just a suggestion.

Try not to buy siberian husky if possible..They find it tough to adapt to singapore weather.

Dude, I know Huskies are handsome, and damn cool. I love them too. But before you make your final decision, I'll list you some details you might want to know more first.
1. They have 2 layers of coat, which is absoutely not suitable for a climate like we are in. Imagine at winter countries, they can live happily under like minus 30 degrees? In fact, they snuggle under the snow to keep warmth. So, if you insist in keeping one, you have to trim its fur frequently, and it will turn out that he won't be as handsome as what you think he would be.
2. Huskies are the direct evolution of their wolves ancestors. They have very dominant characteristics. True, all dogs are loyal, but Huskies might get a little tricky. Extra caution has to be observed when dealing with small kids.
3. Large breeds, need a lot of exercise. Plenty. If not they will get plump, and heavy. Large dogs are prone to an illness known as Hip Dysplasia. It is something like arthritis of the hips, in dogs. It will cause extreme pain as the ball part of his bone and socket joint will wear, tear, and rub against each other. It will heavily affect their lifestyle, they will get depressed, and they can't even walk.
There are only 3 ways to get this settled.
- Go for an operation, which is extremely costly. If I'm not mistaken, they don't do ops like this locally. You might have to send him oversea. This info may be a little outdated though. You might want to check it out.
- Put him/her to sleep. Note, Hip Dysplasia can be found in breeds as early as 5 to 6 months old. It can be hereditary.
- Let it be, keep him by your side selfishly, cause you definitely can't bear to let him go. I've seen a Golden Retriever suffering from Dysplasia. The owner walked him, that dog was limping, or dragging his hind legs rather. He was obviously in pain. I felt him, too.
3. As simple as it is, Huskies, like wolves, howl. You live in HDB, which is illegal to keep a Husky. So if it howls, how would your neighbours react? Don't you even dream of removing its vocal, like what they do in China.
I'm not scaring you, I'm just desuading you. In the first place, Huskies shouldn't even be allowed in Singapore, unless you can afford to keep him cool 24/7.
Like you, I've seriously thought of getting one. I didn't.
