I not saying that lectures are not needed.I just don't understand why when the school can afford to have one tutorial teacher per 20 students,they must have 500 students study under one lecture? Since all the tutorial teachers have the capability to lecture this is just no vaild.

My personal view is lecture are there to brief us on the main concepts and prinicples. It dwell on the more high level view on the subject. Once a while they will go down to details but it is kept at a minimum cuz those are to reserved for tutorials where hands on question are asked based on what the lectures taught. It is like theory in lecture and then practical in tutorials to make sure you understand the theory.
I think for University, lectures can only be conducted by PhD graduates whereas for tutorial a Masters student can do the job already. Maybe that is the difference? Theory are from PhD and practicals are over-see by the Masters student? Sometimes besides teaching, PhD graduates need to submit conference papers so their time is spent between lecturing and conducting their own research.
Of cuz I do agree tutorials actually make us know more cuz we get to do hands on and only from there can we appreciate the theory taught. I am funny I prefer to be taught to do backwards or so called reverse way of teaching. I like to do practicals and then from the outcome try to relate how it fit into the theory taught in lecture -

im not there they also cannot do anything 2 years in JC 0 attendance also never ever get detention. nobody dare to touch the evil girl of the college -
pretty much skip all the lectures and tutorials i can skip in university engineering course.
year 3 liao..... study by myself.. my results is around b+ this semster.
there are pros and cons either in attending lecture or studying by myself. i personally feel that self studying is more efficient. -
I skip all lectures and only go for selected tuts.

but someone had to call up the teacher who happily told the caller that someone skipped like...10 classes.
